StreetPilot c550 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps, including a hefty points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. Simply touch the super-bright sunlight-readable color screen to enter a destination, and the c550 takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. It even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road. In addition, the c550 accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. The European version even includes a preloaded safety camera database containing the location of safety cameras for parts of Europe. Talk about worry-free driving. The c550 integrates Bluetooth wireless technology with a built-in microphone and speaker, so you can pair it with your compatible Bluetooth phone and talk hands-free through the c550 while staying focused on the road. Now there’s no more fumbling with your phone’s handset to answer a call or dial a number — just tap the c550’s screen and you’re connected. With 1-touch dialing for POIs, you can conveniently call ahead for reservations or information.

Had this less than a year and it is very helpful when you go place’s you’ve never been to before. You can search for places to eat and see in an area your not familiar with. It seems to always get me to where I want to go. I like the built in speaker and antenna.
Only thing I don’t like is that mine already needs updating after less than a year. When on a newer road My little truck icon is out in no mans land, and the unit keeps trying to get me back on a known road. The maps are updatable (not free) and not sure what “Extras” are but they can also be downloaded.
Mine is set on “fastest route” and I know from testing on my home roads that it does not always know the fastet route. This makes me question it when I’m out of town.
I’ll use my Android smart phone from now on. Smartphones have nearly made car GPS unit’s obsolete. Only thing is the GPS units work when the cell phones don’t have a signal.
Garmin C550
Feel’s like I have to hide it from my wife!

It’s great!!
Easy to use. I keep finding more and more features everytime I use it, and I’ve had it over a month now. Nice big screen. I’ve never had a GPS before, and it’s very user friendly. Of course I could think of more it could do, like serve me coffee and such, but I’m satisfied, even with its limitations.
Garmin 550 Street Pilot, now discontinued
I loved this GPS as it has “Truck Routes” in it for us RV enthusiasts but it has now been discontinued by Garmin so I cannot get their lifetime Update program which disappoints me. I still use this most days but I don’t want to spend $70.00 to update it for one year now so we will probably buy a replacement in a few years with the lifetime update program. Otherwise it has been a wonderful piece of equipment and I would recommend Garmin and Amazon for the free shipping and no sales tax!
Love it!
I ordered this model because my husband received the same one as a gift, and I loved his. Great price for great model.
NOT AS ADVERTISED
So far this unit works fairly well but I haven’t been able to figure out all of the features yet. It came with a flyer of quick instructions but no real instruction book. I just returned from a short trip 3 hours from home and it tried to take me on a path 45 minutes out of my way. I am sure this is because the settings are for scenic route, back roads only or something else but since there are no real instructions I will have to stumble around with the program until I figure it out. It was advertised to include an interface cable to the computer and a suction mount neither of which was in the box. I have tried to purchase a cable but since I live in a rural community the resources are skimpy. It appears to me that this was a repackaged item that was not checked to verify that everything was in the package.
Great…..buy refurbished and save big
Never had a problem with this….gives great directions all the time but you need to keep the maps updated annually. I bought mine refurbished and it works just like a new one, never had any issues. I also bought a SquareTrade warranty for 3 years on it for fairly cheap. Buy it. It’s well worth your money
Not a fan
I bought this a year ago because of all the excellent reviews on Amazon. The unit itself works fine and does a lot of good things but there is one thing it does not do well: plot routes. I don’t know what it is about this unit but it seems to take the strangest routes. In the city it will take me through all kinds of small side streets when there is a major street right next to it that goes directly to my destination. And then to make it even more weird it does not always take the same route. I can start from the same location and going to the same destination and this unit will take me on two different routes.
So maybe the newer Garmins are decent but I definitely cannot recommend this one.
Great GPS with only one minor weakness
I’ve owned the Garmin Street Pilot 550 now for 2 years and it is a great GPS. The only weakness I have found, and this is a minor one, is that the clock that computes arrival time does not automatically adjust for varying time zones. I live in the Eastern Time Zone (EST) but travel regularly to the CTZ (CST). As far as I know none of the Garmin GPS’s can adjust for the time zone switch automatically. My cell phone shifts time zones automatically, so why can’t the Garmin GPS? As I said, this is a minor irritant, but one it seems Garmin could and should easily correct. As far as I know they haven’t done so with the newer Garmin models.
Good
This product is the best. You must update the maps via web before you use it because the default does not have all the roads.
c550 gps receiver
the product itself is great(i’ve owned one before).the only drawback is when one orders the item but is delivered a different receiver.i believe in the unit strongly enough however,to,after sendin’ it back to memory suppliers,to ask for them to send the correct one back to me;giving them a second opportunity to get it right(ha,or screw it up again).i do believe it was a mistake in the warehouse picking process(those personnel are highly underrated)which frankly i’m surprised doesn’t happen more often.it’s only been a mo. and a half since the original order went in,so what’s another mo. or so,right? go,ms,go!! i am very much lookin’ forward to getting it here sooner than later,as it was gifted for a birthday in early april.oh,before i forget;before your cs representative calls to confirm the items,be sure to ask for the one that actually purchased it…the one for whom it was intended intercepted that message instead of me(surprise bd gift was revealed to them and not much of a surprise after that).
good
I like the product but the map update download is rediculously priced. Updates should be free or at least reasonable. $69? no – too much.
GPS
W HAT A GREAT PURCHASE. THIS PRODUCT CAME STRAGHT FROM THE GARMIN FACTORY. IT WAS BRAND NEW WITH ALL THE LATEST MAPS PRE-LOADED. WE HAVE ENJOYED THIS PURCHASE FROM THIS SELLER.
Mistake
This product was excellent for about three months until the sound went out. Prior to the sound going out, the major complaint was the sound quality. When travelling on the freeway you could hardly hear the navigation sound. When WA state set laws on cell phone use, we used this as our hands free device. To our disappointment, it only lasted three months before losing all sound.
Second complaint, it sends us driving in circles at times because the satellite can’t catch up to the direction of the car soon enough.
There has got to be better out there. Back when we bought it 1.5 years ago, this was the best one rated by consumer reports. Do your research ahead. Instead of research, talk to people that actually own the model you want to purchase.
waiting for a refund
i returned the product, and am still waiting for a refund, after further emails, I am now just getting notified that I am getting credited. Took over 2 months. If I did not have proof I would not have gotten the refund, in other words, If I did not save the receipt, I would have been screwed even though, he recieved the item, in return. GARMIN 010-00522-00 Streetpilot C550 GPS
I had given this to my fiance for Christmas. He loves it and had found many uses for it so far. The seller was great. It came in a timely manor with no complications. This unit (after research) is one of the best for the money. Very accurate indeed. The seller was honest and forthcoming about their product. I would recommend the product and seller.
Great little GPS
Got this and did’nt know a great deal about it. Just plugged it in and wow it was easy to navigate. My wife loves it due to the fact that you never have to stop and ask for directions again. It was inexpensive, has a large display and has audio cues as well.
Garmin C550 StreetPilot
Very user friendly and easy to operate.
Best of all My wife loves it.
Streetpilot 550
I purchased A Streetpilot 550c primarily based on other reviews I had read as well as it having the features I was looking for. I like the portability because I transfer it between my truck and my patrol car. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks and, so far, it performs as advertised. I an extremely happy with it. The price was right and the shipping was expedient.
Garmin Streetpilot C550 GPS

I bought this for my husband for his birthday and he loved it! The unit is user friendly, yet has tremendous capability. We highly recommend it.
