I have owned Garmin nuvi 1350 for about 8 months. Recently I bought another one as a gift for a relative. I am mostly satisfied with this product. I wish there was a button to change volume while driving. If you miss a turn in the middle of a city, the updated routing is not always optimal, which in my opinion is a minor inconvenience.

I previously owned a Garmin Nuvi 1350 that was stolen. I found that after a few weeks I missed my original GPS so much that I needed to replace it. …like the features it offers and find that it works flawlessly.

    The Good:

I got this unit last week, it works great, I did not want Bluetooth or traffic, I wanted a GPS that would recalculate routes quickly and this unit does this very well. It is very easy to use and it provides great guidance on where to turn next, etc.

    The Bad:

When I first got it the route it would calculate between my home and my job was perfect, I have a 16 mile commute and I wanted to test the unit and get familiar with it before our upcoming vacation to Arizona. After a software update from the Garmin web site the unit now decides to route me the long way around thorough a route that takes me out of the way by a few miles, it is a route that no one in their right mind would take. Even after going past the point where the unit is forced to recalculate and it should figure out that the best route would be the most direct, it would still insist on taking you out of the way to re-join the original route. This is a serious problem as it can take you where you don’t want to go while in unfamiliar territory; for this route it is not a problem because I know which is the best way to go.

For those familiar with my area, I live in Mission Viejo and work very close to the intersection of the 5 and the 55. Instead of taking me the most direct route up the 5, the unit insists that I take the 405 and then the 55. Even after I pass the intersection of the 5 and the 405 and continue up the 5, the unit recalculates and it wants to take me out on Alton Parkway so that I can re-join the 405.

    The Ugly:

I now have to deal with Garmin’s customer service which has a reputation for being horrific. I will post a follow up.

This is the 3rd GPS unit I’ve owned and for the price it’s not bad. The only real gripe I have with it is the routing is somewhat questionable at times and some addresses have been WAY off the actual location of a business. It will get you where you are going, but it can take you on a route that is longer than necessary. All in all though a decent unit.

The only other real complaint is that a USB cable is not included to connect to a computer. It should be no big deal for Garmin to toss a cheap USB cable in the box.

This is my first GPS ever, but I still find it to cover all my needs. Easy to use, decent battery life (although I mostly use it with car charger anyway) and maps seem relatively accurate & up to date.

The only problems I have had:

    1) This GPS sometimes sends you up the wrong way of a one way road. This is probably just due to outdated maps, but super inconvenient & confusing when you’re already struggling to get to where you need to be.

    2) I had a very annoying issue where the touch screen would not be accurate. You would often have to touch on the next button to activate the correct one (i.e. touch on W to activate Q). After much searching I found that it is possible to recalibrate the touch screen by switching on the unit, and keeping your finger pressed on the left upper corner until the calibration wizard appears. This has fixed the problem, but I reckon it should have been ready out of the box.

Everything else on this GPS is great for my needs, and most features I even consider overkill. I would buy this unit again (now that I discovered the recalibration feature)

I have owned varies Garmin GPS systems in the past. I like the new things they have added to make the unit easier to use and the way things are shown on the screen. I like the way it shows my speed and the fact that it shows the speed limit right next to that. The way it tells which lane to be in is a great addition. No longer have to watch the signs to be sure Im in the right lane to make my next exit. Bought from Amazon at a really great price makes it even better. Had a problem with the touch screen on the first one I received but as usual, Amazon sent me a replacement with all of the paperwork to return no charge. Second one works great.Garmin nüvi 1350 Series 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator

I upgraded from my old Nuvi 350 top a 1350. I like the new features like the lane assist and mute button and all of the same good stuff is still there.

The only complaint I have is that I had to buy a case and charger. My first Nuvi came with these. I guess Garmin is trying to cut back by leaving these out but they are necessary items

Pros: The Garmin user interface is very easy to use. The maps and POI database that I downloaded from the Garmin website are reasonably up to date. The screen is clearly visible even in direct sunlight. Simple point to point routing works quite well.

Cons: This unit is severely underpowered. POI searches can sometimes take forever – even a simple search can take 20-30 seconds. Planning a trip from San Francisco to Boston yielded an insufficient memory error (by comparison, my Magellan GPS calculated such a route in just a few seconds). Booting up the unit can take many seconds (not including acquiring satellite signals) during which you have to wait before you can start driving. This unit doesn’t have any trip planning capabilities which is very disappointing after having used multi-stop trip planning extensively on both my built-in Toyota GPS and my Magellan GPS.

Conclusion: This is perhaps a good GPS unit for a beginner but for almost the same price you can buy a Magellan GPS which does everything much faster – my only complaints about my Magellan is that its user interface is harder to use and its screen is unreadable in bright sunlight.

In the display photos, there appears a very nice carry case (red lining interior) and storage for both the unit and cords. Its one of the features that ‘coaxed’ me into picking this specific Nuvi ensemble. Was very disappointed that this is not included in the purchase – even though it is prominenly displayed (why have that particular photo in the series therefore?? – since other photos already show the unit itself, etc). Then…when I went back to the web page and scrolled way way down to the “what’s in the box” section – I realized of course what a deceptive practice I had fallen victim to. Doesn’t make me think less of Garmin – but does leave a terrible and unecessary (and avoidable) bad taste in my mouth vis-a-vis Amazon and its partners – and the depceptive selling practice that seems to be allowed. Diminishes credibility as a retailer – very quickly. Nuvi 1350Garmin nüvi 1350 Series 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator

Shipped quick, works great. I like the fact that it speaks street names. My old C330 did not.

Sometimes wonder why it wants to take a different route (if it’s not shorter or faster). Don’t seem to get all the traffic updates like I thought I would…don’t like all the pop-up “coupons” but can’t turn them off or you lose what traffic updates I do get.

Received my 1350 and immediately registered the unit and upgraded to the latest unit software. Works great and several people like the speed zone feature. We went into downtown and like the idea we could take the unit with us and put it in pedestrian mode. Very helpful in the French Quarter of New Orleans when you generally know where you want to go, but not specifically because so much looks the same.

Very easy to use and driver friendly. Shows your speed and the speed limit of the road that you are on..It’s a nice improvement over the last Garmin we had.

We had borrowed a GPS on one previous road trip and it made the navigation so much easier and the overall trip so much less stressful, that we knew we needed to buy one for ourselves. I did a lot of research online before settling on this model and we used it immediately right out of box — I had to charge it for several hours first and like other reviewers have pointed out, it does NOT come with the cable that you will need to charge it inside – you will need to buy the wall charger – or the special cable that allows you to charge it up using your computer.

I programed in all of the addresses that we would be needing on our upcoming trip (hotel, wedding location, rehearsal dinner restaurant etc) I even included a couple of extra addresses just in case we would have a chance to visit them — so that they would be available to us while we were out and about

It was the best trip we have ever had as far as NOT STRESSING out on where we were going in an unfamiliar big city — very nice to know exactly where to turn and which lane to be in!

We had some issues with the battery running out right when we needed it the most — but that was the USER’S fault – not the Garmin’s.

I highly recommend this Garmin to anyone – - peace of mind is priceless — and now we really feel like we can go anywhere and navigate with confidence!

This is a pretty good GPS. The only issue is the TTS voices are too much for the device casing and if the volume is too high, they cause the case to rumble and make a horribly annoying noise. It happened on two different units. The original voices don’t, however. But oh well! It’s still a good GPS. It hasn’t failed me yet :-)

I bought this a couple weeks ago, and I will be returning it this weekend.

We travel full-time in our motor home, and we are often in unfamiliar territory. I have been using a Garmin Street Pilot for seven or eight years. I wanted a GPS with spoken steet names, 3D display, Lane Assist, and speed limit display. The 1350 does all that.

It doesn’t, however do many things that are important to me.

    1. It doesn’t display city names while navigating. When tooling down the highway, I can’t tell what town is coming up, or even what town I’m in!

    2. It doesn’t list upcoming exits. We use that, especially to look for rest areas, every day. I downloaded a POI file of Interstate rest areas. That helps, but it doesn’t tell me about other exits.

    3. No truck routing. We drive a 40′ motor home, towing a car. I need the GPS to help me avoid hairpin turns, roads that don’t allow heavy vehicles, low bridges, etc. Our ancient Street Pilot does all that.

    4. For the most part, it doesn’t display street names in the immediate area. That makes it hard to find a street by simply looking at the display.

    5. No multiple destinations or multiple via points. That makes it impossible to force it to take a specific route, rather than the shortest or fastest route.

    6. No routes can be stored, uploaded, etc. Since it can’t use multiple via points, I guess that doesn’t matter much.

    7. Can’t look at all POIs, only those within a selected category. When driving down the highway, we sometimes wonder “What’s THAT?” With our old Street Pilot, I select all POIs, and it displays them in order of proximity. With the 1350, you need to select a category of POI before they will display.

I ordered an 855 today. From what I read, it meets some, but not all of our requirements, although it does not display elevation. Pity.

I originally owned the Garmin Nuvi 206w. It was my first gps and I loved it dearly. For those of us who are directionally challenged, trying to navigate to new places is a true chore, especially if it is a new place in a different town/city. I loved the 206w as it was a large screen with easy to see numbers and clear directional voices. My grievance was the view while traveling. It had a directly on top of view and made merging exits very difficult (it would say stay left, well do I exit left or stay left on the same road? It never meant the same thing twice). After about a year of using the 206w I bought a different companies solution to this view that had Lane-Assist that was suppose to indicate which lane you need to be in along your drive. This was a perfect solution to the issues I was having with the 206w. I sold the 206w, and bought this different model (not a garmin). The unit was shiny and that’s about all it was. It could not find street numbers, it didn’t know how to find my home town (smaller town in utah). It was with me 1 week before I sent it back.

Enter the Nuvi 1350. The 1350 shows your virtual vehicle on screen from a lower rear angle allowing you to see what’s approaching on screen (an insanely accurate depiction for several blocks ahead at a time if you are zoomed in very far). This new angle allows me to note when there are approaching turns, merge lanes etc. The lane assist feature is also fantastic on this unit. I have not had a single blunder of misunderstanding the voice commands since due to the lane assist feature.

I am a very satisfied Garmin user and will never buy another brand again just to try and pinch a penny.

Bottom line: if you suck at following directions or finding places based off of addresses this unit is an absolute must for you.

We used it on a few trips so far. It paid for itself as far as Im concerned the first trip. I always get lost.

I bought this unit thinking that it would be a nice upgrade from my 255w, but I was really disappointed. Reroute calculations are slower than the previous versions, and it continously freezes up when I received incoming calls, that is the weaker point from new Garmin software.
