Garmin nuvi 255 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Map Updates
| Overall rating: |
|

nüvi 255 leads the way with voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions that speak street names to get you there on time. It’s packed with millions of destinations and maps for North America. Also includes the Lifetime Map Update gift card to update your nuvi 255 for the life of the product.
Features
- 3.5″ Screen Size
- Speaks street names (e.g. “Turn right on ELM STREET in 500 ft.”)
- World travel clock, currency & unit converter, calculator.
- Dimensions (W x H x L): 5 x 3 x 5 inches
- Weight: 1 pounds
Exactly as advertised
Given the standalone price of a lifetime map update card, this package is a steal. It reads the street names, as advertised, but the text-to-speach voice is not quite as gentle and pleasant as the normal voices. The only thing that makes this unit less than perfect is that the keyboard layout, due to the narrow screen, is in alphabetical instead of QWERTY layout. But I suppose they needed to keep the onscreen keys large enough for the average or fat finger-tips
Does NOT include Lifetime Maps
We ordered this unit because it is listed as having lifetime map updates. It does not. One came with no authorization code or card, so we contacted amazon who directed us to garmin. Garmin does not bundle its products (it says) and sent us back to amazon. Amazon promptly sent out another gps, again, having the label saying it included lifetime maps. Nothing in the box but the gps and its accessories.
It’s a great gps, but there’s no reason to pay $40 extra for nothing.
Best Navi you can buy
Seriously, I think this is the best garmin nuvi product for the buck. What I really appreciate about this model over the previous Garmin model I had (it was a newer version than this one) are these:
1) Preview of upcoming turn on upper left hand corner
2) Speed limit sign display
3) Gives the phone number to the POIs.
4) Cheap
5) Lifetime map update.
NUVI 255
I really like the NUVI 255. It is lite, portable, fits easily in a purse or suitcase, doesn’t take up a lot of room and does the job well except announcing the street name, instead it says to turn at the next exit, bearing right or left. The lifetime map update bonus with this package alone is worth $100, so it’s like getting the GPS for free, what a bargin. It cost others $79 for one update so this is worth the investment.
