Garmin nüvi 260 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished)
| Overall rating: |
|

This is a refurbished GPS. Refurbished generally means that the unit has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the navigator back to like new conditions. Some GPS may contain cosmetic blemishes. Garmin’s nüvi 260 combines the thinprofile and attractive price point of other nüvi 200-series GPS with directions in real street names. As with all nüvis, you get Garmin reliability, the fast satellite lock of a high-sensitivity integrated receiver, a slim, pocket-sized navigator with a gorgeous display, detailed NAVTEQ maps that lets you search by name for more than 6 million points of interest like stores, restaurants or hospitals, and an easy, intuitive interface.

Good but not great.
This is a good product save for the fact that sometimes it does not take the fastes route. You will get to where you need to be but sometimes it is not as fast as it should be.
Trouble free
The Garmin 260 is no longer manufactured by Garmin. It is still a great unit. They upgraded the maps to current 2010 maps at no cost . I have never had a problem with Garmin GPS units. You can’t go wrong with easy to use Garmin GPS units.
Garmin Nuvi is Groovey
My wife has been pestering me for months to replace my PDA-based GPS kluge (with the mechanized, unintelligibly-synthesized voice) with something more modern and socially acceptable. I proudly presented to her this latest toy to fulfill her wish. Although more than I thought I should pay for such a ubiquitous device, the high-rating and cheaper “refurbished” version made it an acceptable expenditure. It has certainly lived up to the expected reputation for ease of use and accuracy. So far, I have found every location quickly. On occasion it does seem to route me through a distant U-turn where a preceding left would obviously have sufficed but it always gets me there. The Points of Interest library is the one feature that has transformed me from a lost loser to a trail-blazing hero. I can always find the bank, shopping mall or grocery store, which my persnickety wife craves on a whim. Not only does it boost my confidence and makes my thinning hair seem inexplicably more verile but supports the theory that the memory of this device has the most current data available.
There are two drawbacks, which, fortunately as the operator, only I am aware of. First, the unit takes about half a minute to first acquire satellite synchronization, not so significant. The second is more egregious: the screen-based, touch-sensitive keyboard meant for data entry is laid out in alphabetical order instead of QWERTY fashion like the typewriters or computers that have been used for this purpose since the time of Hadrian. Even a Dvorak layout would have been preferable to this abomination. I know I shouldn’t but now typing while driving is even thrice as dangerous!
However, the interface otherwise is very intuitive and the unit covers all basic settings and features that I have seen and expect. As GPS units go this is the best value I could find. A definite improvement over asking directions, perish the thought!
Amazing
I have this from Tiger direct with cheap price, but the good thing is I can update my map to lastest version for free that Garmin offer nowaday. Even thought refurbished product, It works great that I have tested so many routes. Thank Tiger direct.
Great product for low price
I bought a refurb garmin 260. Does everything I need it to do. It is a basic GPS system without a few of the latest bells and whistle (ie bluetooth, mp3, widescreen) but quite frankly I think most of them are over-rated. Had no problems with the unit being sold as a refurb and downloaded the latest maps.
Great GPS – Mounting Kit Missing
This is a great little GPS. It’s inexpensive, calculates routes/re-routes quickly, and tells you the street names. However, the mounting bracket was missing in this refurb package, eradicating the savings both from the refurb condition and the online purchase. I’m sure this was an oversight, as I am generally very pleased with Garmin and Garmin refurbished products. We buy GPS units regularly for our business.
Great GPS in low price
I received the refurbished Garmin nüvi 260 before the estimated delivery date in very good condition. The GPS is working fine. I did lot of research before buying the GPS. I was kind of afraid of buying refurbished item but hats off to Amazon.
Great for the Price!
You can’t go with a Garmin, especially for the low price Amazon offers. I have used a TomTom and a Garmin now and I don’t see much of a difference. Both GPS devices have their issues when it comes to navigation. Sometimes if you know the area, it will try to take you the long way when you already know a better way. Great for areas that are unfamiliar to you. Very easy to access European maps as well.
No station in the package
I just bought 2 units Garmin Nuvi 260 from Amazon.com.
However it came without the cradle which suppose to attach with suction cup mount.
Garmon 260 review
The refurbished Garmin looks brand new and works great. I am very pleased with the purchase and it was well worth the money.
Works Great!
Purchased this after trying out a friends unit. This refurbished nuvi works just as good as my friends that was purchased brand new. Came in box, like new. No evidence that it was ever opened or refurbished. Have had for months and works like a charm. No problems at all. [...]
Good price good operationj
Wife has one similar so I operated it right out of the box. Use for business
Amazing little device
This gadget is easy to use, has up-to-date detailed maps, accurate GPS, and good software. Text-to-speech is invaluable; you don’t really need the screen (but the buttons on a 4.3″ screen should be easier to operate). My refurbished unit had no blemishes. My main complaint is the POI database has some errors.
Excellent Product
This far exceeded my expectations. I cannot think of anything negative to say about it. Easy to set up & easy to use. It sure saved us a lot of grief on our recent family vacation!
Another great product from Garmin
I bought this GPS after calling Garmin to determine what type of warranty this GPS came with and also if it was eligible for “latest maps upgrade”. Unfortunately Amazon does not give this information. Garmin confirmed that this GPS came with a 1 year warranty and was also eligible for an upgrade to the latest maps. I own a Garmin forerunner and use it all of the time on bike rides, running etc so the Garmin brand was where I looked first. Upon turning the GPS on in the center of my house it was actually able to determine my position…amazing! The ease of use is great. The ability of the GPS to recalculate a route was also pretty surprising. Initially I thought that this GPS did not come with a points of interest database that had anything more than Police, Ambulance and Gas as I was trying to view POIs through the menu button. When I clicked on the “Where do you want to go?” button all of the POIs were there. I emailed Garmin, as others have recommended, and was told that I just needed to prove that I had re-activated it after the date that they had on record(3 months earlier). I forwarded Garmin the amazon.com email receipt and they made the 2010 maps available to download free. So far we are amazed with this GPS’s performance as well as Garmin’s customer service. Highly recommended! Of course kudos go to Amazon for offering this GPS at such a great price as well as their fast shipping!
Just an update.
I just want to reaffirm the tremendous customer service provided by garmin. I recently had to return my garmin nuvi because of a white screen which was caused by my neglect more than likely. They replaced the item quickly and also included the “latest map upgrade” with the replacement. Amazing! Thanks Garmin.
Garmin nuvi 260
product works great, and I don’t need to worry about whatever broke before breaking again. invaluable tool for my job.
Works great, good price
I needed a good GPS that worked, and I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. This was the perfect product. Garmin is known for quality GPSes and this one is no exception. The UI is very intuitive and it comes with a car charger, unlike some other models. It holds a charge for a reasonable amount of time. It includes maps for Canada, Puerto Rico, Alaska, Hawaii, and the continental 48 states. It speaks the names of streets and points of interest, which is nice (though it pronounces the word “us” as its initials). It has a very good database of points of interest. The new maps downloaded and installed with no trouble at all.
AWESOME!!!!!
I was pretty skeptical about purchasing a refurbished GPS, but when I received my product exactly that day after I ordered it from Amazon.com, which I was very impressed with as well. I tried out the product and it works great. Garmin Nuvi 260 tells you step by step where to go. The points of interest is also an amazing feature. I highly recommend this model.
Great little device – just very slow to find satelites
This is a great device and gets the job done. Only one (big) issue: when turning on teh device it can take up to 5 minutes before it locks onto satelites. Problem seems bigger under a lot of treecover or around big buildings.
Works great lots of help on the road…
Pros
Easy to use
Great directions
Newer roads were on it
Cons
Some of the restaurants and businesses that were in Points of interest were long out of business… Several years closed… Nice to have those taken out.
