I’ve been using my Garmin Refurbished 265T that I purchased on sale with rebate from another dealer for about a week so far. Knock on wood, its holding up great.

The item came in a Garmin labeled blue and white box with all of the items factory sealed. It also came with a USB cable which I was not expecting but happy to receive. I fully charged mine via the USB cable before using. Then I went outside and let it do a first time satellite search which took about 15 minutes to complete.

My unit cosmetically looks and functions as good as new. Other than the box, I think you would be hard pressed to differentiate between the refurbed unit and a new one. Prior to this, I had the Garmin 1250T and it would constantly freeze up and not turn back on for 15-20 minutes. I believe this was due to overheating and its a known problem with that unit. The 265T is a good replacement. I’m one of the rare people who actually prefers a 3.5″ screen as I find the larger ones to be more distracting.

The only Con for this unit is the volume. I have mine at 80% and it still sounds low. This seems to be a common charaacteristic of this unit. With the windows open going 65mph, you do have to listen a little carefully to fully hear the directions but my 1250T did the exact same thing. I shoudl note that you can hear them well just that you have to try a little harder under noisy conditions. I wouldn’t put the volume on this past 80% either as it can get crackly and you risk blowing the speaker.

I live in a heaviy congested metro area and I find the traffic feature useful and mostly accurate. Only problem for me is by the time I get the notification, there are very few routes I can take so I am stuck any way but its good to know how far the traffic is.

I haven’t yet updated the firmware and maps but even on a refurbished unit you should get the 1 free map update from Garmin within 60 days of first acquiring satellites.

This is a great GPS has gotten us to our destinations rather quickly and easily. Fast connect to satellites.

If you need a stand-alone GPS, this one is great. I’ve now used similarly specced TomToms and Magellans as well as an older Nuvi 350. This one’s a great value, works as well as (and in some ways better than) the 350, and I found Garmin to be much more reliable and easy to follow than the other two manufacturers. That said, it seems as though the future of gps navigation is moving towards dashboard and phone integration, and I suspect we’ll be seeing some substantial improvements in gps technology as those markets continue to grow.

If you can hold out till your next cell phone or car purchase, it’s probably worth the wait. If you need a gps now I’d say get the best deal you can on a 2XX series garmin (like this one), but don’t fret over the features – there’s very little difference in functionality between the $600 units and those you can find for under $200. If you really want/need your GPS not to be an integrated unit, I’d say the 2XX are still a great deal across the board, but the traffic service may be worth a bit extra if you live somewhere that the FM traffic band is reliable – from my use I can say the traffic features don’t help much if all your driving is around Philly, DC, NYC, or Baltimore.

I love this GPS! The traffic feature is really helpful in a busy metro area. There are ads but they are small and I don’t really notice them. Garmin GPS’s are very user friendly and this one is no different. It also displays the speed limit which is a nice added feature as well as the ability to enter coordinate for a location. Best GPS with traffic at this price!

This unit replaces a 5 year old Garmin C330. This unit cost less and does more than the old one which still works quite well

I like the traffic alerts but dont care for the advertisements that pop up on the screen.

I am very pleased with the features and look forward to a long reliable usage.

Have had no problems yet other than voice freezing up a couple of times.Re-booting has solved the problem. Not sure if it is a common thing or its because mine is a re-furbished unit.

Good product. Works as if new. No glitches noticed. Beats Tom Tom….

Good deal at the time. Got a new 265WT at a black friday sale for the same price.

I purchased this unit to replace a much older Garmin 125, which was simply showing its age, dropping reception all the time etc.

After researching all the options, I went with the Nuvi. This model really has more or less everything. The bluetooth is great, synced right up to my phone, though it does lock up if you do not give it a few seconds between calls or inputs. The traffic service is useful, sortof, as the ‘ads’ are hardly noticeable, but the traffic information provided in a major metro area was hardly real-time.

The win here is in the functionality of the GPS (the intended purpose) itself. It quickly comes up with a reasonable route to your destination, the map upgrade from Garmin took a while, but as long as you do not touch the unit while it updates, you should have no problems, and the gas saver mode as well as the ‘how efficiently am I driving’ program is nifty, especially if you want to keep up with it.

Very useful device that should do everything you ask of it for a price that I could not find bettered anywhere.

I bought the refurbished unit from Newegg and have used it for about 1 month. It replaces my Garmin Nuvi 350 due to getting several new features for little more than the cost of upgrading the maps. Mine came with the newest map set so no upgrade was needed. It boots up very quickly (especially compared to my old 350 and is usually ready to go in seconds instead of minutes. The free lifetime subscription for Nav-Tech FM traffic worked right out of the box, no fuss, no muss, no bother. I even use it every day for my 50 mile round trip to and from work simply to get current traffic for the rush hour trip once I get about 5 miles from the house (I live in the hinterlands of metro Atlanta). If you want to check it on a map, it has been consistently and accurately reporting traffic slow downs and stoppages from Atlanta GA to beyond Lawrenceville on HWY 316, covering a far larger area than I ever expected.

On The downside,I miss the truck and bus option for routing that I had with my old Nuvi 350 and the voices aren’t as refined/clear as they were on my 350.

Bear in mind that all maps are outdated, including the ones you pick up at the welcome center/rest area when you enter a state on a major route. That said, the 265T maps were more current than I expected

    Pros

    Updated maps

    Free lifetime FM traffic subscription

In spite of being free, the FM traffic works well in the larger metropolitan areas that I have used it.

Maps include US, Canada, & Puerto Rico (I travel all three). Maps on other systems are often for the 48 states and maybe a few miles into Canada.

Compact, easily fits into your pocket.

The windshield mount is less bulky than my old 350.

    Cons

I miss my old truck/bus route option when towing my travel trailer.

Alternative voices are not as clear as they were on the 350.

The unit did not include a case/holster to protect it when in your pocket or purse. I bought a small camera case at Wally world for it.

Future map updates are expensive but I can’t complain since I know that going in. For the difference in price, I’ll probably continue to buy a new/refurbished unit every 2-3 years innstead of paying for updates.

I found the nuvi easy to use and accurate in helping me find my way in urban areas unfamiliar to me. I was a bit concerned about purchasing a factory refurbished product, but it has been updated and works perfectly. I would recommend this to anyone.

I would say that everything worked perfectly out of the box…no problem registering gps and downloading latest map from Garmin. It appeared to be a brand new unit, at a refurbished price. One problem that came up after several weeks was the bluetooth connection to my Razr V3 phone failed….emailed customer support about the problem…got a responce back shortly and it was a VERY well written reply explaining what I need to do to fix problem and it worked as stated. I didn’t think at first that the bluetooth would be something I would use. But after playing with it and finding that the speaker was clear and loud enough to hear, I found it better than the speaker on Razr. Great customer service at least for this problem. Just had to do an update after deleting the problem folder to repair the bluetooth problem.

the 265T will fit in your pants pockets very well if your planning on using the pedestrian mode.

I previously owned a Nextar, and after the powerjack broke I purchased this Garmon. I had high expectations as its the brand everyone talks about, was twice the price, and got a lot of great reviews. However, while it looks nice and has decent 3d graphics, most times you actually have to start driving after you put in the directions for it to start telling you where to go. Half the time I have to randomly guess which direction to turn in while waiting for this thing to update. This in turn causes a lot of U-Turns and is very frustrating. Who cares about all of the other bells and whistles when the primary function is sub par. I also don’t like the fact that it doesn’t tell you the miles to the destination on the main screen, but you have to go to another screen to see it while driving. I shoudla got another Nextar.

Purchased this item due to my wife using my Garmin 255. This GPS took me on a dirt road for 18 miles during a snow storm when I could of traveled on a highway all the way. The unit advised me that destinations were on the left, when they were on the right hand side of the street. Lost single multiple times during my 11 day trip. This never has happened with my 255. The unit did however provide good directions to most of the locations I visited and saved a lot of time. If I was to do it again, I think I would purchase a new unit rather than a refurbished unit.

I ordered a refurbished model and cannot tell it from a new one. I debated getting the wide version but went with the cost savings of the 3.5 inch refurbished model. I have found it very intuitive to figure out; love the touch screen; I ordered a carrying case and AC charger which are great as well. I got one map update for free within 60 days so I have an alarm set in my phone to remind me a week before. Shipped on time and arrived as expected.

Researched my GPS purchase for 2 weeks and couldn’t find a better deal than this one! The 265T has lifetime traffic (the ads are super small so they don’t distract), bluetooth that works great with my cell phone, text-to-speech for all streets AND has a voice dial feature I didn’t even know about! Received promptly and Garmin support was excellent when I called to get my free map update. You can get 1 free update, but you must provide them with Amazon proof of purchase because it’s factory refurbished.
