This product is a must have for truckers. My husband loves it. Makes his job safer, and easier.

I have only owned the Garmin 465T for a short time. I purchased it mainly because I pull a 30′ fifth wheel camper and boat behind it. I can’t afford to get into tight places. It is a global positioning system and is only as good as the pre-loaded maps. Like any system, you do have to use your brain also. For instance, if the unit is set up for shortest distance, it will take the shortest distance even if there is a faster route four blocks away. It is necessary to change the vehicle between truck and car or the shortest route vs. faster route. I bounce back and forth depending on the need. Keeping that in mind, I am very happy with the purchase…

I got the Garmin nuvi 465T for a friend. He took one of his regular runs and programed it for fastest route. It saved him over an hour and alerted him to a road delay. He’s been impressed by it’s coverage and onroad info.

Works pretty good. Has most truckstops and scales and repair shops. Sometimes it will route you and then tell you it does not know if it’s a truck approved route, but hey, you have to check the map anyway, right?

the gps is highly accurate with the newest map update ( a key to any gps system) and its the easy Garmin software and interface. truck routes are a little iffy as laws change faster than the updates but so far have not had any major problems where an obvious truck route was taken. the only ones it missed were recent no trucks (where the change happened after the map date) and some off in the backwoods where not many trucks travel. the mounts included were the permanent and temporary tape and would probably work well but as im a company driver i also ordered the suction cup mount which holds very nicely.

Like this Garmin. Has lots of good features that are very helpful. Accuracy is a little off. In truck mode it tryed to route me where there was a 13′ bridge that I already new about. The Garmin has powered off once on it own, and wouldn’t come back on so I unpluged it and pluged it back in. It didn’t come back on till the next day. Thought maybe updating, not sure. At night in truck mode the speed limit doesn’t change. Stays 70 for trucks and cars. Not trying to be negative but letting you know what has been experienced. But over all really like it. Easy to use, read and navigate.

So far, husband who is an over the road truck driver is please with Garmin 465. This is the Garmin designed for professional truck drivers. You input type of truck and load you are carrying then the Garmin routes you accordingly.

He has only had it with him for one week. However so far it has lived up to the hype.

Works good lies some times, but it conserns me that it blacks out or shuts off once or twice everyday.

Within three days of being on the road with My Garmin GPs,It failed, I mean frozen, when it did come on it ran in a loop. So here I am, new to the trucking industry, heaeded into Montreal, with no gps and very very little French in my vocabulary. Your noy lost until you are in a country where you don’t know the language. I survived. The replacement has worked fine. It still tries to route you through areas that are restricted to big trucks i.e. downtown Atlanta. It needs a button that asks it to find an alternate route once you see it has you on one that you know very well that you can’t take a truck onto. I have no experience with any other brand with which to compare it to.

Great GPS, this is the 3rd one I’ve used and is the best. Can be programmed to show truck routes. I drive Super B in the USA and Canada and this is a helpful tool. I would definately recommend it.

This is my second Garmin purchase. I like being able to switch between my 5th Wheel/Truck combination and the car. It does a good job of routing you in the appropriate way depending on the length, height, and weight of your vehicle. I wish they would drop the price a little on this Garmin but as there does not seem to be any competition out there for this application they kind of got ya. I can not compare this GPS unit with another brand as Garmin has been the only one I have ever used. It is a very well made product and based on my experience with the first one I purchased this brand again. Other people have commented about the time involved updating the maps for a Garmin Gps and I wish they would come up with a better way of doing it. I also think with the price you pay for one of these that lifetime map updates should be part of the deal.

Driving a motor coach with weight/height/road restrictions, I needed a GPS that covered all of those options. Currently have a Garmin NUVI 755 and, although an excellent unit, does not cover restricted roads and offers no choices for inputting weight and size of your vehicle. After reading about truck GPS units, decided on the Garmin 465T. Wrong…….!!!

If I never owned a Garmin before, I would not have noticed the differences. The 755 has MP3 capabilities and a headphone jack (both making for more pleasant driving. No-one hears my directions or my music). The 465T has neither. The 755 has substantial heft to it. The 465T is make of plastic and weighs less than half of the 755.

But the primary drawback to the 465T is its inability to route you around restricted roads. For instance, the 755 will route you through Storrow Drive in Boston even though Storrow drive is restricted to cars only (Height limit 9′). The main reason I bought the 465T was to avoid situations like that, but the way the 465T avoids them is, when it calculates the route, flashes a screen that says Storrow Drive is restricted to trucks. Period. It doesn’t route you around it. It just gives you the choice of canceling the route or accepting it. It also gave me no indication of a problem when it routed from New Bedford, MA to Newport, RI, even though a bridge on the route has an 18 ton, 2 axle limit (It has had for years, and the latest map in installed). Same was the case for routing from Providence to Boston, even though another bridge on 95North with an 19 ton, 2 axle limit (along with a posted $3000 fine for crossing it) is on the route.

Not feeling comfortable with what your GPS is telling you does not make for a confident driver.

As far as I’m concerned, this is a total waste of money. It looks like Garmin is heading in the right direction, and trying to break into the trucking GPS market, but this product just doesn’t make the grade (no pun intended).

Another minor (but irritating) problem is the voices. The 755 voices are crystal clear, and although the same voices are available for download, they sound garbled and are not clear at all.

My wife bought me a Garmin nuvi 765 June 09, loved it but it died. We went back to Best Buy and they were out of stock on the 765 so decided on nuvi 465 since we have a motor home. I am disappointed in the 465, going to take back. It does not have all the features and ease of use as the 765. The best example is display of miles to on the screen all the time. We loved the count down of miles to, or could switch to time, which is all the 465 displays constant. The truck feature is fair, not for serious truckers or Rvers. It is easy to switch form auto to truck.

terrible truck routes for NYC does not allow lincoln tunnel, holland tunnel, outerbridge, whitestone. Unit closes when you enter a non truck road and does not help get back on truck route. Over all very dissapointing. The only redeeming feature is the routing which has unlimited number of stops and does a pretty good job. The c340 was a much better unit.

  15. by M. Sears

Works very well. I love this garmin. It works for what I do.

  16. by R. Rimbaugh

I have been using this unit for almost 6 months now. The 465t is a great product. I still use the atlas to be sure but all and all great buy. There are a few things I don’t like about it. For instance, while going on the route they want you to take it’s fine, but say an exit ramp or something is closed. It will start to re route you through side streets back roads etc. But if you have half a brain and can think for yourself you can find you way around. The biggest reason I bought this unit is because of the turn by turn directions, that’s awesome. All other features I figured out along the way. Love this unit. traffic, const. very helpful. rest areas, truck stops, just about anything it will find. If it’s not in the poi’s spell it out, that’s what i usually do. I also drive truck, as far as the gps saying non preferable truck route, big deal. Look at the atlas(you do still carry an atlas right) Use your head and cruise down the road. If you are looking into buying this unit for truckers, I say you cant go wrong.

My boyfriend drives a 18-wheel truck. This GPS is perfect for him and easy to understand and tells everything (you read about). I research about GPS online, found magagzine reviews praising it. And then found on Amazon and had shipped to me for his christmas present. The price is worth it. He gets new stories to tell me about what the GPS does for him. I recommend to anyone… 10 out of 10. By the way it comes with sitting holder for dash no need to buy anything else, accept maybe a cover over the touch plate to keep clean.

  18. by J. Perkins

Ok. I’ve had this GPS for about 5 days now. I’m a truck driver and so far I’ve traveled with it to Sacramento, CA, Albuquerque, NM, and Denver Co.

I’ve done research on a couple of different trucker GPS out there and decided on this one. I never left a review before, but I’m gonna do so now since I myself use other peoples reviews before I make a final decision to purchase something.

Packaging: No this item DOES NOT come with the suction cup to place on window. Luckily for me, I bought a GPS Garmin 1350t from walmart and took it back to purchase this one. Well, lets jus say I kept the suction cup and returned the rest to walmart. :) I believe they’re like $10 or so….

Download: When you register this product with garmin, they’ll give you a free maps update. Give yourself a couple of hours for it to complete. Its not that big of a deal. Just download it and go clean or watch a movie or something til its done.

    Features:

    LANE ASSIST

I love this feature, Especially of you know about traveling thru CA, they have highway exits to left and right. So this lets me know well in advance which lane I need to be in.

    SPEED LIMIT

This is really cool and pretty accurate. Jus know that when there’s construction and they change speed limit in that area, GPS won’t pick that up. (common sense). Also in area like CA, truck speed is 55mph, but rest of traffic is 65mph. GPS will recognize the 65 limit. Not a big deal to me.

    SCALES

This is nice. I’ll get a notice of scales about 2-5 miles in advance. it missed a couple of scales. Both in CA. But one looked like it was closed down. BUT, out of 8 or so scales I’ve passed, it missed one and recognized it after I already passed it, I’d say its pretty accurate.

    ROUTING

Is good to go, accurate re-routing as well. OHHHH!!! I was in CA and I attempeted to get on freeway. GPS told me there was a weight limit of 4.5 tons on that highway. Sure enough about a half mile on that freeway a HUGE sign was posted and said jus THAT!! I got off the next exit. In truck mode the GPS will route you away from that type of situation. You’ll all get notices from gps when an downgrade is about and also sharp curves. It doesn’t tell you EVERY downgrade. From what I can tell, ONLY REALLY STEEP downgrades.

    VOLUME

There was some complaints about this. To me its not that bad. I mean if you have your radio BLASTING, then you can’t hear it. But having radio at respectable volume, even my cab noise, I can hear it just fine. Should the volume on this unit be improved? Probably so? Its not as bad as some people is making it out to be.

    What I’m I forgetting……..

I believe that it. You can switch to truck or automobile. There’s other features like favorites n stuff like that. I mean that is what it is, you either use it or you don’t ya know?? But I think I touched on main features. If I forgot something, I appologize. Hope my review helps.

  19. by D. Mally

Great unit, Still new to it but if it is anything like my last garmin I am sure to be impressed. Being able to keep multiple Equipment combinations makes it a snap. If you had to pay just one off route ticket, it would cover the cost of the unit. Hard to fight that kind of logic. Also very nice always feeling like you know where you are and where you are going, especially when you are running a 53 footer.

    A must have

  20. by R. Taylor

When comparing this to a less expensive older GPS model (not truck specific), I found the new one lacking. There were ‘no-truck’ routes that were not announced, there are conflicting times and miles… the older GPS being more accurate. Maybe I need to get used to the new, more expensive to know if it is really worth all the money.
