Gifted to a friend who has to drive a lot and he uses it all the time to get to his destination without getting lost and saving lot of time.

I was so excited when i got this Garmin nuvi 750 last christmas. It worked great within my city and i actually loved it. Of course the portable dashboard mount is not a very good thing. The suction cup doesn’t stay put and keeps falling off the base. So, minus points for that.

I went to Italy for my honeymoon and bought Garmin City Navigator NT SD Data Card for Garmin GPS Units, Europe (010-10680-00) from Amazon. It was a little SD card and i slipped it in my GPS unit and we headed off to Rome.

Once we were there, it was very difficult to figure out how to make Garmin use the new card instead of trying to use the US map. Man! it took me several minutes to figure out how to trick garmin to make it use the darn Europe map and finally i was able to make it work. So, lack of user friendly interface is a big minus.

Once i got it to work, it was good except that you need to be in an open space for the GPS to capture satellites. We were in the downtown of Rome and with all those buildings and narrow streets, it took at least a good 30 minutes for Garmin to find a satellite as it kept going out of satellite range! One day my wife was sick and i had to go find a chinese restaurant to get some soup for her and Garmin, after 30 minutes of my patience, took me right to the restaurant and back to our hotel. For that one reason alone, it was worth the money that i spent on the European map.

After we got back home, it took a few minutes to make Garmin use the US map. It is not very intuitive.

If you don’t switch maps and use the factory installed map, it is great. if not it is a little pain to figure things out and their website sucks if you try to get some help.

I bought this for my son-in-law’s birthday. He had had a different GPS and was not happy. He loves his new Garmin nuvi 750 and the portable dashboard mount. His wife loves that he now knows where he’s going because she gets to put in the address. It’s so user friendly.

This is the 3rd portable GPS I have purchased. The 1st was a Gamin Street pilot. It was a good product. I gave that one to my daughter when I upgraded to a Tom Tom. The Tom Tom was no where near as good, and the sound became so garbled that I could not understand what it was saying. I missed an important meeting because of it. I tossed that and purchased this Garmin. I recommend Garmin over the Tom Tom.. The sound is clear and loud enough, but my favorite feature is, upon reaching your destination, it will also tell you what side ot the street it is on.

This is a very good gps as gpses go. It picks up the satellites pretty fast and I like the feature that shows your previously travelled route. The only bad is that the charging cable stopped working after 14 months. This is the second garmin GPS I’m having this problem with so I think it’s a manufacturing problem. The chargers seem designed to last only +/- 1 year. Had to buy a mini-usb cigarette charger to continue using it.

I am amazed and plesed with the detailed listings available on the program as well as the touch method of selection. One of the outstanding features of this equipment is it’s geographic accuracy in pinpointing my exact location at all times

I am however frustrated by my inability to obtain a copy of an operating manual, either by Email or written request to the Garmin compny.I purchased my present GPS in early June and to date have received no response to my request for a manual even though I am willing and able to pay for same.

I am disappointed in the 750 GPS. Although it will take me to the addresses I request, it often has a strange way of routing me there. Although I have it set to find the fastest route, it often ignores the interstates and puts me off on curvy 2 lane country roads, slowing my trip considerably.

Also, the Nuvi 750 seems to be unable or unwilling to see roads built within the past 2-3 years. Even when driving on them, it cannot identify them. It cannot even find my home, although it has been there for almost 20 years. In case you are wondering, I downloaded the latest 2010 map updates a week ago, and am still experiencing problems.

I live in a rural area, and it seems to do better in urban city areas.

For the money I paid for this thing (close to $200.00) I expected much more. I would not recommend a Garvin GPS to anybody.

Bought this for my father who drives a taxi cab for a living. He loves this thing. Whenever he doesn’t know a route he asks for the address and in seconds he’s on his way. He’s not tech savvi and he can still navigate through the functions too.

This is a great device to have. Used it already to find an address in an unfamiliar part of the city and to locate a church in another city. It was right on with directions to both. Noticed that the thing even noted bends and curves in the road. The dashboard mount held perfect even though my dash slopes at a significant angle.

I have a job that requires me to drive to multiple locations often outside of my hometown. In order to make my life a little more comfortable (i.e. being able to find somewhere to get something to eat or drink in an unfamiliar town), I got a GPS. I got the Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator, thinking that I could input a number of waypoints, or addresses, and thus make a route. This wasn’t the case, so I sadly had to return it and get the Garmin nüvi 750 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator. Here is a comparison:

    DISPLAY

The look of the 255 is awesome. The icons are clean and stylish, and I liked how turn indications were pictured instead of written out. I also found the current speed display to be helpful, as I found that you actually look at the unit more than you expect to. It is very navigable and easy to use without instructions.

In contrast, the 750’s display is less bright and the look of it is way more basic. It has text for Left and Right instead of a little turning signal (as pictured above).

The 750’s touch screen is much more sensitive. However, it’s hard to see in the afternoon sun.

    ROUTING

The routing features of the two also differed. The 255 routed me more efficiently (I’ve been using them both for the first times in a largely unfamiliar area but where I do know some ways to get around). However, the 750 picked up on my preferred roads to drive on and changed accordingly. I expect GPSs to be somewhat limited in the abilities that are kinda nit-picky, like indicating whether an address is on the left or the right. I think you can easily look at mailboxes yourself and figure that out. BUT some people find this feature important so I’ll comment on it.

The 255 was so inaccurate in neighborhoods as far as the location of a house (left or right side and which end of the street) that I tuned it out after turning onto the street. Sometimes it even had the street ends completely swapped. So it’s not helpful in this way.

Surprisingly, the 750 is pretty accurate in this area. If it didn’t always get the exact location of the address right (maybe 200-300 ft off) it DID know which side of the road it was on.

    SATELLITE PERFORMANCE AND OVERALL SPEED

The 255 was much quicker that the 750 to lock onto the satellite when powered on.

The 255 was incredibly fast at re-routing me. If I missed a road, it recalculated in time for me to take the very next one only a few feet away and get back without annoying U-Turns.

The 750 is slower at recalculating. I find myself turning around in a lot of driveways to get back on the original route because it’s just too slow to give me a new road to take. I end up passing it and then it tells me!

The map display as the car moves along is much faster in the 255 as well, so accurate that you can trust it for a turn even if the road names are a wrong in real life.

    QUIRKS

The 255 is plenty loud. I used it on 80%.

The 750 is on full blast in my fairly quiet car and it’s pretty tough to hear. I want to find another unit and return it because this is a pretty big issue.

The 750 takes a long time to “load maps” at initial power up each day. Sometimes I switch is back off and on really quickly and voilà, it’s ready to go. Annoying if nothing else.

One day the 750 just quite talking to me for a couple hours. Not too bad since the voices are worse than the 255, but annoying. It randomly started back again hours later (and yes, I did power down and back up, to no avail). I hope this won’t be an ongoing problem.

A comment on the 750’s multidestination routing feature. I programmed 41 points into a route one day. Great, except if you miss a road! Instead of re-routing you to the via point you were trying to get to, all those points disappear and it “recalculates” and takes you to the next point. I missed about 20 points one day because of this, and you can’t do anything about it because the routes disappear once you pass them.

**If anyone has a fix for this, please post it because I may have to keep this unit… another option looks like a Magellan but they seem limited to only a few via points**

Hope someone finds this helpful. If anyone knows a Magellan or something around $200 that would fix all these problems I have with the 750, do tell :)

EDIT: There are apparently multiple types of volume and ways to adjust it on the 750. I had only adjusted the volume in the settings section. Later I found a volume control option on the main menu page (Where To and View Map page). I turned it up and now the 750 is plenty loud!

I purchased the 750 about 6 weeks ago. I have been impressed with the features, but the thing died completely. I turned it off once, and it will not turn back on. I am waiting to hear from their technical support. I was extremely disappointed that I could not download the manual from Garmin.

I purchased the Garmin 750 for my directionly challenged wife as she was planning to drive to our daughters in an adjacent state. I tried out the unit before she left so I could show her how it works. I purposely tried to trick the unit by turning off the route on several occasions. It would immediately “recalculate” and give me the modified directions. My wife made the trip to and from without a hitch. She is sold on the Garmin and so am I. Easy to use and impressively accurate.

There are plenty of reviews for this product. Let me just add a few things. I’ve had a nuvi 260 for a year and have been satisfied with it. I wanted a 750, but when it was priced at $450, it was too expensive. The only major feature this has over the 260 is the ability to plan and save a route. You can also import routes designed in Mapsource- a feature I really wanted because I frequently pick routes other than those calculated by the gps software. Another added feature with the 750 is the speed limit advice on many roads. This isn’t always accurate, but close. The newer nuvis offer lane guidance and traffic alerts but the reviews have been mixed about those 2 features in anything but metro areas. Not worth 100-200 more to me at this time.

The 750 works well. I’d advise a friend to buy one!

When purchasing this product, I relied on the following statement from the Amazon.com product description page: “Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store.” I discovered that the operative phrase was “almost every.” Mine did not have the latest maps software preloaded, as I soon discovered when many roads completed in the last couple of years were not on the machine. I also noticed that the printed material in the box was dated 2007. Furthermore, as soon as I registered my Garmin, their website offered me a FREE maps update. That was good but also very inconvenient, since it took half a day for the files to download (using Roadrunner!). The alternative was to pay Garmin $10.00 for a CD with the new maps on it.

As others have noted, the Garmin often is very slow locating satellites. Another problem I have had is when searching for places by name, I usually give up before the Garmin ever finds the place. For whatever reason, searching by name sees to really bog the machine down. It seems to do better when you type in just the first few letters of the place name. I have also noticed that the instructions to turn are sometimes a little bit late, so unless you are paying close attention, you could receive your “turn left” instructions after you are in the intersection.

I think overall the software could use some tweaking to make it more user friendly. Most functions and commands are not very intuitive, and are often hard to find. I have never used another brand of GPS, so I can’t say how the Garmin stacks up against other brands.

I replaced my first Garmin C340 because it didn’t pick up satellites. I replaced my second Garmin C340 after two years because it stopped picking up satellites. I’ve had this Garmin nuvi 700 for about a month and already it seems the speaker no longer works. Needless to say, I’m not real happy with Garmin products.

This was for my daughter’s car. It works beautifully in urban and suburban areas. I have not tested the product in remote areas. I live up in the hills and we have had issues with the satellite not kicking in occasionally until we are down the hill, so I am not sure if this would be a problem in remote areas.

I bought this item as a gift for my son. I knew he wanted a Garmin but I don’t know anything about gps units so I did some research, looking for a unit that would speak street names and have as many extras as possible since he’s that kind of guy. My son likes the unit – his only complaint is that it does not give traffic updates. I got a good price on the unit and it arrived quickly and in excellent condition. I would definitely buy from this seller again.

I have had constant problems with the voice on this model. It comes and goes. With Garmin support, it went away for a few months but the problem has returned. This is my third Garmin. It may be my last.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this one. It lived up to my expectations. Sometimes difficult to understand, but very good directions. Easy to use for certain. Finds signal quickly. Seems a bit difficult to figure out which “right” they want you to take when the choices are close, but there may be a setting I haven’t found yet that fixes that problem. I’ve seen other peoples GPS units and this one is much easier to use. Looking forward to the multi point trips, too.

Garmin nüvi 750 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator with Portable Dashboard Mount Included

This is the best of the best…I did a lot of research and found this GPS to have everything I wanted at a geat price. Very easy to use and read, with step by step on screen instructions. And with the fact that it came with the dashboard mount made it an even better deal. I would recommend this GPS to anyone. If I can use it and understand it, anyone can.
