Despite this product being refurbished, we are VERY HAPPY with the quality and functionality. It was easy to install and was worth it to save some money!

I was very excited to get my Garmin 750. I had never used a GPS, so I didn’t know what to expect. It takes a while to find the signal. The voice commands you can hardly hear. The manual says it has a battery life of 4 hours but it never lasted me that long. I don’t know, maybe I had to put it in the battery saving mode, which gets really dark and you can’t hardly see. Another feature that I thought was odd, was that it didn’t work while using the car charger. If you are charging it while using it on the road, it turns off. So, you better make sure it is fully charged before you hit the road and even then, it won’t last you that long. Since I had never had a GPS before, I didn’t know if these issues were normal. I lost mine, I don’t know if I left it in a rental car or they stole it from my suitcase. Anyhow, next time I buy one, I’ll make sure that you can charge it while using it and that the battery life is longer. I don’t know if I should experiment with the Tom Tom or not.

We have two .. one for each car a 760-w and 780-w.. enjoy them both and particularly like the fact that it can sync with the bluetooth cell phone.. nice feature for hands free driving. Now that is not to say that you don’t have to use your mind some times it wants to take you where no car should go – winter road blocked – but if you think about what and where your going this device belongs in your travel plans. Works well to find ‘eats’ on the road and in town too.. enjoy

I’ve had this model for a couple years now, and overall, I think this is a decent product. It gets me where I need to go with only some minor hassles. A few general comments, both good, bad, and indifferent:

    1. sometimes it takes a few minutes to lock onto a satellite, but once found, I’ve never had a problem with the connection stability.

    2. The ETA calculation definitely does NOT take traffic lights into consideration. It’s only accurate if you are staying on the highway (not considering traffic of course), but if you’re driving through a city, you’ll have to add a buffer for stop lights yourself.

    3. it seems as though the database of businesses isn’t always accurate. once I was literally in front of a QT gas station, and it told me the nearest gas station was a few miles away.

    4. I’m not sure how the routes are calculated – I’m one of those people who uses Google Maps a lot, including for directions, so I often compare the suggested routes between the Garmin and Google, and many times, they are different – sometimes VERY different.

    5. the buttons to enter letters/numbers are too small to type quickly, if you’re not very precise with your typing, you will consistently have to hit the erase button to correct mistakes.

    6. the battery life isn’t great, at the most I may get a couple hours before needing to recharge. and the constant “low battery” warnings are amazingly annoying, but I just updated the firmware which I believe has a patch so this may have been fixed. But I can’t imagine that any GPS system has great battery life, given the constant drain of satellite communication.

    7. after a few years, it seems that the touchscreen has lost sensitivity – I have to press a little harder than I used to in order for it to register my input

This is the only GPS unit I’ve ever owned, so I can’t compare it with TomTom or Magellan or those other brands, or even other Garmin units.

Could not live with out this. I did a great deal of research on this unit before I bought it so I knew what I was getting. The common theme to the dislikes is it take a while to find the satelite (I have not found that to be an issue) and it could be a little more intuitive when putting in the address information (I would agree, but it really is not that bad). The main reason I bought this unit was for my motorcycle, this unit has the voice and an MP3 jack that I can plug into my stereo on the bike and I never have to look down. Work great.

So this was the first GPS I’ve bought before. I bought it awhile before a big road trip I was taking to the northeast US (from Madison, WI) so I could get acclimated to it. Since, I’ve been on the trip and didn’t get lost and argue with family members about where we were once (unlike most every other trip), so that was a big plus. I like being able to add via points when you don’t agree with the route it gives you. Also, the time of arrival is pretty amazing, 3 hour trips on back roads and its within a minute or two of the right time. Only traffic or red lights seem to stop that from being right on. Was very helpful when deciding if we had time to make it to a party 3 hours away one day, we made it only 10 minutes late, just like the device told us 3 hours earlier.

A couple minor annoyances I had out east was when I wanted to go around NYC, I had a fairly specific way I wanted to take interstates to go around it, and even after adding a number of via points, it seemed to just turn the route planning in circles and really was hosed up, I ended up having to use it just as a “where am I” thing while following a good old map for what roads I wanted to take. I think when its in a major city, there’s just too many roads for its programming to decide from that if you want to change it any, its a major pain. Also, for some reason going around Buffalo, it lost sattellite signals for a couple hours, and I ended up having to take the battery out and putting it back in again to reset it and get the signal back. Not sure what that was about, it only happened that one time.

But other than that, its been great. Very helpful at night when you’re in a city you don’t know and are trying to find a place to eat or your hotel 15 miles away in the suburbs and don’t know where you’re going. Normal atlases and state maps aren’t going to have all those little city maps, and this thing not only has them all but tells you exactly when to turn and how long to your next turn.

This is my 2nd Garmin GPS system after the 1st one was stolen. Overall, I love it because I am geographically inept and it makes everything simple. There are several features I do not need, but have learned to use and now very much appreciate such as: BLUETOOTH…so that I can link it to my cell phone and talk hands free, it is simple to use – I have learned to upload music, books on tape, photos, etc. onto it from several different sources in no time, odometer/speedometer/compass/route time, etc. I have not used any other brand of GPS so I do not know how it compares. The downside is the length of time it takes to acquire satellite reception at times AND routing. I am not always guided through the shortest and smartest route to my destination despite keeping the maps updated at [...]. Another negative would be the length of time a fully charged Garmin lasts…which is not very long.

All-in-all, my Garmin has helped me more than it has disappointed me and I am very happy with it and highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a good GPS.

My wife thought I was purchasing another toy until she had to use it one day. Her attitude changed immediately, especially when she was able to easily navigate through some unknown territory and didn’t get lost.

When you purchase this cool little device, be sure to connect it to your computer and update the maps….all free from Garmin. The voices leave a lot to be desired. I use Emily from England because she is understandable. Jill from the USA sounds like a “Valley Girl” and that alone will get you lost!

I love the wide screen and all of the features. A good product that you WILL enjoy using.

The device itself is fantastic and works as advertised. However, I was very disappointed to find how poorly areas are mapped in the state of Kansas, other than Kansas City and Topkea (probably Wichita as well, although i have not had occassion yet to try). Entire neighborhoods in my town of 20,000 people, as well as entire towns and highway exits within an hour of Topeka. In both cases, the roads and /or neighborhoods are well over 5 yers old. If you are rural or semi- rural, test out a device from a friend before you buy.

Received refurbished model in great condition. Easy to use – able to put to use almost immediately. Very reasonable price.

The Garmin Nuvi 750 came as a huge disappointment to me. Being a Garmin, I expected a quality product. I purchased the Nuvi 750 from TigerDirect for $150.00 in Sept. 2009. I loaded the newest software and firmware onto it as of Sept. 2009.

I do not recommend buying the Nuvi 750 unless Garmin fixes the problem of satellite signal reception; perhaps you can buy an external antenna or signal booster, but the unit will not acquire a signal. I NYC, NJ, and Pennsylvania, I could not get a signal. I was on a bus and had the unit next to the window. In four hours, no signal.

I tried the unit in pedestrian mode in NYC. I worked after about a 30 minute search for a signal. When it worked, I actually liked it. I walked with it on for about an hour. However, I tried using it in pedestrian mode at least three times, and it never acquired a signal in three of four tries.

If Garmin would put older firmware versions up for you to download, that may make it worth purchasing if it’s cheap (assuming older firmware would fix the problem). Since other reviewers like the unit, and the reviews all posted before the latest firmware release, I am guessing the NUVI 750 works with older firmware.

Or, if Garmin issued a new firmware upgrade, that may fix the issue. But as of Sept. 2009, avoid the NUVI 750. You will simply be returning it like me.

I bought by Garmin Nuvi 750 in Aug 2008. It died yesterday after very little use. Some weeks I didn’t use it at all. Pro rated out this was a very poor purchase, it has a 1 year limited warranty. I won’t be purchasing another Garmin

A nice unit for $200 delivered. I took this on a trip and about 1/2 way through the unit stopped talking to me. It showed me everything that I needed to see (maps, highlighted routes and turns, text directions, etc.) but it just wouldn’t talk. So… at the first stop I plugged it into my laptop and went to the Garmin site to upload all updates. Sure enough, after all updates were installed everything was just fine. Sound volume is a little low but not too bad. All in all, it’s a good deal for $200.

This is the first gps device we’ve owned and while I have no comparison to other devices, we are quite happy with this one. We first used it on a trip from our home near st louis to walt disney world in florida, then across the state to visit friends in port charlotte and then home. It unerringly guided us to all locations. It also helped us find restaraunts and even a walgreens drug store. I would whoeheartedly recommend it!

I really enjoy my garmin 750. I took it with me on a vacation to Sacramento, CA and couldn’t have been more impressed. The directions were clear, complete and in an audible voice. My wife was extremely pleased because she did not have act as my co-pilot for the trip. She is very non-techie and was completely comfortable when driving by herself. We both highly recommend this product.

I started an ebay business where I buy and sell a certain product that is in high demand, yet most people have no clue that they could sell them on ebay for huge profits. There is a huge supply of this product in every town.

So when I started doing this, I would sometimes get lost going to pick up this product at peoples houses. I then bought the Nuvi 750 and must say that this has been the best investment for my business so far.

No more driving slowly, looking at street signs (or missing a street because the sign is missing).

If you are on the fence about this product, don’t wait much longer. I think that I read that this model is being discontinued. It has features you won’t find in some of the newer units and the price has been lowered dramatically.

The GPS gets a satellite lock very quickly, so that is a plus.

The multi-stop routing is very handy.

You can turn off the GPS function and run a simulator so you can look at the route that it chose by scrolling the map. You use your finger on the touch screen to scroll the map.

The Where’s My Car function is helpful.

The Pedestrian mode is helpful. Helped me find something at a local outdoor shopping developement.

At first it was not speaking the street names as advertised. After some digging I found that you had to select a language with TTS in the menu. TTS meaning Text To Speach.

It is supposed to have updated 2009 maps, but there is an overpass built in my area a few years ago that lets you avoid getting stuck at multiple railroad crossings that is not part of the file so the GPS kept trying to route you through the old way.

The FM transmitter is very weak, almost to the point of being useless.

The speaking voice is very weak so if you have loud noise from outside the vehicle it is hard to hear it.

Some unconventional address formats cannot be entered for a search.

A good GPS for the price and if you want a basic unit.

Garmin nuvi 750 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator This is an excellent unit that prevents me from being totally lost in the concrete jungles. I have even used it in my hometown of 35 years and found that it’s suggested routes are often more economical/quicker than the route I had in mind. The only thing that I noticed as a “mistake” is concrete center divides. A couple of times The unit wanted me to turn left but I could not due to a concrete center divide. After thinking about it, I should not expect the unit to “know” that there is a concrete center divider in front of the hotel that I was staying at. The unit does not come with very much instructions, BUT it is so easy to use that it’s practically “self Driven”. In Georgia – across the United States from me, the unit did not tell me to turn in time frequently. I think you just get used to how it works in the area in which you live. I or my co-pilot should have paid more attention to the distance in the lower right corner. I got to every destination easily by using the unit which would NOT be the case had I not had the Garmin unit. Everything else is so perfect that I give it 4 stars.

touch screen stopped working (unit still turns on and loads maps)called garmin ,of course for $99 they will troubleshoot and advise as to cost to fix.unit is in pristine condition ,looks exactly as it did when purchased …no drops,or left in vehicle especially window due to thefts, so it has been well taken care of.garmin can not (will not)say what could be happening with a unit in this great shape but otherwise useless

Purchased the Garmin 750 in July 2009. Unit arrived quickly, instructions were easy to use. We’ve traveled in both very rural areas and very urban areas and it worked perfectly. On a weekend trip to Nashville we merely stored all of the hotels, resturants, shopping areas, and tourist destinations we needed prior to leaving home in the favorites. Regardless of where we were, we just pressed the hotel favorite or other favorite we needed and the Garmin directed us right to the destination. On a weekend trip to a small southern town, I needed to go to Wal-mart. I merely selected shopping and keyed in Wal-mart, the unit gave me a list of stores and the distance. I made my selection and was good to go. We’ve considered purchasing one for quite some time – why did we put if off! The voice is pleasant, the destination time is handy, and the speed limit display is very helpful.
