I purchased this unit 2 yrs. for my personal use and have found it to be very reliable & accurate in my travels throughout the US. Based on my experience, I purchased an identical unit as a gift for my family on their upcoming travels. I have been very satisfied with this model and would recommend it highly.

If this is the first GPS navigator you will purchase, you will not have a whole lot of features to compare. So for this review I thought I would compare 2 GPS units one is a very inexpensive no name GPS I bought directly from China. Both have Bluetooth, Media player, Fm Modulator and a few other features. The China model came with Igomyway maps which is really nice to look at and has much more 3D feel to it. But it can get itself lost when recalculating directions and you will wind up feeling like that movie European Vacation as you keep driving by “Big Ben” mounting the china unit is a chore.

The Nuvi 760 rarely makes a mistake and recalculates without confusing itself. So the GPS portion goes to the Nuvi 760. (Make sure you run the free upgrade before you use it you will have all the new maps). Mounting is a snap and secure.

The media player on the china model works ok but can’t show album art and the Map server is on the SD card so if you put in a different card you will have no maps.

The Garmin has an internal memory and can handle an additional Sd card (I am using a class 6 8GB card) it will also display album art with some sync programs like Media Monkey but it won’t display album art if synced with windows media player but it is a problem with windows media player not the Nuvi 760.

The Bluetooth in the china unit works ok but has a habit of hanging up often plus if you have your blue tooth connected the media player running and to GPS maps it will run out of resources and crash so the China no name unit may work somewhat it is no Garmin 760.

The Bluetooth in the Garmin 760 works nice even in my noisy truck. Callers can hear background noises because it is, in fact, a noisy vehicle. When I am in my personal, car callers hear very little noise because it is a quiet car.

One feature I really like is when the Nuvi 760 pairs with your phone it also pairs your phone contacts and they are safely and easily connected by using the touch screen. It is also supposed to show a text message and be able to convert it to speech. but I have not figured out how to make that work yet.

The FM modulator in the Garmin 760 works well in remote areas but might not do well in metro areas if you have your radio antenna connected.. For that the 1/8 direct output might work better or a cassette adapter if you have a cassette player. I do not listen to terrestrial radio so I just disconnected the antenna and the FM modulator works well in metro settings most of the time.

In summary the Nuvi 760 does a whole lot of things for a very fair price.

There is a newer version of this model the 780 which is the same unit but with MSN direct, but MSN has already discontinued the MSN direct features so you would have a Nuvi 760 anyway.

Now for the sad news Garmin has discontinued this model Nuvi 760 and replaced it with the Nuvi 780 they will still offer updates and support for this model though.

One more side note: the Garmin updater runs really slow so make sure you have enough time (like 6 hours) or order the CD.

This gadget is powerful, because of comprehensive map and accurate directions. The good battery also allows outdoor activities, if proper carrying-on accessory is avaible. Anyway, it is awesome based on the three-week long usage.

This is the first GPS I have ever bought so I was not sure what to get or what I really did need. This one is really nice and has added features that I didn’t think that I would ever use, but am glad it has it. It has a pedestrian mode so you can walk down the street and find shops when you are in a big city. It worked well when I visited New Orleans. Having everything play through the radio was pretty cool. I would play my MP3s and when a turn would be coming up, the music would cut out so I could hear the directions and then the music would come back on. It helped me get out of a couple traffic jams really easily. I have had it for over a year now and it still works fine. Never had to replace anything and I have never upgraded it.

I purchased the Garmin because we travel a lot. We always plot our route using both the GPS as well as an atlas. Once we get our route planned, we depend entirely on the GarminGPS. It has carried us wrong on two occasions. I should have noticed the route, even though the shortest, was through the middle of a business district…I was towing a travel trailer at the time. What a mistake. My friend has another brand GPS and when we travel together he always tells me that we will use my Garmin instead of his “other name brand”. I am very happy with this GPS. Price was good, quality is good, very dependable instrument.

It is the only GPS I have owned but I find it easy to use. The manuel is good and was used only to start my use of the unit. The RF power sent to my radio is very weak and static is almost always there. It’s speaker volume is almost to low to use when the windows are closed. That’s the only complaint I have with it. When the package arrived, I opened it. The hardware for mounting the unit to the car and other accessories were packed loose in an open-top tray. There was no G.P.S. in sight. I called and explained to one of your personal that the G.P.S. was missing. I requested that they send me ONLY the missing G.P.S.

Later I was looking at the accessories I lifted-out the tray. There, just laying loose in what was the bottom of the shipping carton was the G.P.S. This was not a factory packaged item. Someone had either returned this item, or someone at your end had been playing with it.

I received a complete NEW G.P.S. with all the accessories. I contacted you folks, and shipped the NEW REPLACEMENT G.P.S. back to you.

I was DOUBLE BILLED. I had two statements of purchase on my computer. I STILL DO NOT KNOW IF I PAID TWICE. Will you kindly check to find-out if I paid only once, or did I pay twice. Bye the way……the product is nothing to brag-about.

    pros: 1.screen size good,

    2.touch screen function good.

3.’Where To’ screen good, especially points of interest.

cons: 1.having to agree regarding use every time u switch on.

2.poor on off switch – very slow response.

3.marking corrections or via points on map not straight forward and cumbersome.

4.when travelling to the same destination the next time, it does not offer you the corrected version with the via points u marked.

5.sound quality is very poor normlly and it cannot be heard if window is even slightly opened.

6.sound through the radio using FM transmitter hopelessly bad due to static and interference.

7.Sometimes slow in advising direction to turn especially in built up areas. Garmin nüvi 760 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator

I bought this unit for the precision and ease of use. For the price, it can’t get better. Garmin has the best quality screens and map displays. It also performs much better in terms of reception and navigation compared to other brands. 760 can connect to your bluetooth enabled phone and bring your phone book and call information over. This is really useful. Use this with the FM transmission feature so that you can hear the other person through your car stereo. GPS volume is a little low per my standards and is not sufficient for conversation over phone. The mic works quite okay. I don’t use it to play mp3s through the FM transmitter to my car stereo. The signal gets caught up between FM radio transmissions and music listening becomes quite annoying. Route planning is another feature that i use quite often and it works great as expected.

Had a tough time picking between this unit and the 265WT. After all the research, i gave priority to the fact that 700 series uses better technology for signal reception since this is a higher end series compared to 200 series. That means better precision and ability to track satellite in tougher conditions. My unit has only lost connectivity when i am way inside in mall parking lots. Also, where i live, they don’t have live traffic. On the other side, i must admit that 265T has better direction displays. The green arrow on top left next to route display can be very useful in preparing for the turn.

If you are willing to spare few more bucks, go for 785T with all these features, traffic and real time lane displays.

My only complaint with Garmin is the lack of a technology like TomTom map share. From its description, it sounds very useful in keeping up with changes caused by road blocks and construction works. A moderated information sharing map is definitely the way to go.

We are moving from Kankakee, IL to Bay St. Louis, MS. Although I am originally from the New Orleans area, my husband is not. Usually, on our visits home, I drove. Now, due to a stroke, I no longer drive & there was no way he was going to find his way around! I’ve never even SEEN a GPS device before & this was so easy to set up & understand. Although we haven’t really been on a trip, we’ve been using it around town & it gives excellent directions. I also like the feature of being able to play the directions over the radio.

I now have the confidence to drive in any city without the worry of getting lost. The POI function is a nice addition. Overtime it seems as though the device starts to take more time to power on and acquire a satellite signal but it takes less time than you should spend letting your vehicle warm up so this was not an issue. My biggest disappointment was the FM transmitter. I can’t even use this function because the signal is simply way too weak.

Easy to use, fun to play with – not disappointed and would recommend this GPS.

I bought this GPS last year, so I am a little late doing a review. But I was reviewing another product and decided to do this one too.

I love my Nuvi 760, except for the fact that they were not up front enough about you having to sign up on their website in a certain period of time to get the basic map updates for free.

So, my Nuvi’s maps are outdated and I cannot afford to update as the maps are VERY expensive to buy.

Great device, but pretty much a throw-away at this point. And when I do throw it away or give it to a charity, I will buy a brand other than Garmin simply because of them not making it clear that I had a certain time frame to sign up on their website to get their free basic map updates. I think something like that should be printed on the outside of the box for people to see right away!

So, if you buy one of these, or any Garmin. I suggest that you sign up right away on their website so that you don’t have to buy maps, or do like me and toss it in the trash once it is too outdated to use anymore. (I figure I have several years use, but will have a lot of misinformation too).

I like it but just sometimes i need to go somewhere it has clear sky to serch for signal, but once

it get signal then it work just fine. It doesn’t have lane assistance but it can listen to music with bluetooth so I think it’s a good product.

This unit is very easy to use, but after less than six months, it shut down. The unit will not power up anymore. I contacted customer support, and they gave me some tips on how to power it back up, it still did not work. I have re-contacted customer support and am waiting to hear what to do with it. It’s a shame that it is not working. I was actually enjoying using it.

Most Garmin auto/mobile GPS units come highly recommended by reviewers. This unit for the most part satisfies. It has been accurate and trouble free in finding and giving directions, not so with other features. Now for the downside. Either the paid renewable subscription type or free traffic updates feature available on many GPS units is a joke. For the most part they are inaccurate and not current and do not give you real time road construction alerts. The next item is the cost of map updates after the first year. Garmin asks for $100.00 I believe. This to me is a little steep considering that the actual cost to Garmin and other providers is most likely a fraction of that. Ah yes marketing. A way to sell more new new units. I will be investigating manufacturers that offer real time traffic reports for a fixed monthly to yearly charge for what I hope is a superior service for not much more than a map update. Since they down sized from the Street Pilot line, the sound stinks. All for looks. The microphone reception in Bluetooth mode is also terrible. Most times you cannot make out what the Bluetooth user is saying.

This was my first GPS unit, and I am quite please. Great POI, maps, and very easy to use. Bought it with the ‘09 maps and have since upgraded to the ‘10 maps.

You can pair the 760 with your cell phone via Bluetooth for hands free talking. I believe Garmin has discontinued this model, but if you can find it, buy it.

The only con is that it does not come with a case.

Would have been 5 stars but the newer model has Lane Assist :) Works past my expectation.

Worked on move from NC to NV. Worked in rural MidWest and crowded Dallas & LA. Worked in & over the mountains of NV and southern Cali. Even worked at 41,000ft @ 495mph on Delta. I read the safety pamplet on the back of my seat, GPS’ are not prohibited items :) Ever since those commercial pilots got “distracted” somebody needs to make sure they are going the right way. ;)
