I have owned 4 GPS’s in the last 10 years and this one has been my favorite so far. I love the new features. Lane assist works great in Northern California and the live traffic seems pretty accurate

I owned the Garmin 660 and decided to upgrade to the 765/765T when Amazon had it on sale. I am disappointed in sharpness of the graphics. The 660 was clear and the lines demarcated. The graphics on his unit seems blurred in comparison. Another very annoying feature is the pop up advertisements. I do like the lane assist and the automatic time update but other than that I would prefer my 660.

Garmin has slipped up big-time. I guess they’re getting arrogant like Toyota; when you’re the biggest player in the market, I guess it is customary to rest on your laurels and coast instead of improving your product. I bought this in January 2010 and right out of the box, the touch screen is horribly inaccurate. No matter how often I recalibrated or reset the device, it did not work properly. I’d press an “E” and an “O” would pop up on screen. Buttons would press by themselves if you pressed one on the opposite side of the screen. The touchscreen sensitivity is a known issue for Garmin, but they obviously do not care. Come on, Garmin, do some dang quality control. How do you send crap out like that in a new box?

Then, the routing was just as ridiculous. It would have me go straight, then make four left turns in succession, leading me back to the same street I was already driving on. What in the world? It would also choose inefficient routes and the lane assistance is a joke. I live in Dallas, and with all of the highways, toll roads, and service streets we have here, I should see lane assistance pop up more than twice. In fact, Dallas is kicking this Garmin’s a$$. It can’t tell if I’m on a main highway or a service road that runs parallel to it.

Despite all of this, the graphics were nice and I might have actually kept the thing if it weren’t for the touchscreen issues. Almost all GPS’s have routing issues of some sort, but I draw the line at the interface. If I have to keep repressing buttons to get it to work, and if Garmin thinks it is acceptable to release this crap, then I’m going to another manufacturer.

After much research, comparisons between models and brands, this was a great decision. I drive two seaters and the cabin is small enough that the built in speaker is fairly loud and clear, besides, most of the time I use the FM transmiter so I can hear my music and directions via the radio. I really don’t use the bluetooth, but it works well and easy to set up. I love the freeway arrows that indicate the lanes you need to be on. Satelite aqcuisition is very quick, traffic report is okay, the thing is that in Los Angeles, rush hour is rush hour and no matter what road you take, it will be congested. The advertisment that comes with the traffic update is too small to be distracting so that’s a non issue. If you buy this, I suggest you get the case with the flap for pedestrian mode. The only CON I see is that the power wire is pretty thick, but maybe because it carries antenna wires for the fm transmiter and for the traffic updates.

Overall this was a great deal for less than 190 at Amazon.

For those that have issues with the screen accuracy, I suggest tapping with the fingernails for a more accurate hit, get the 4.3 clear screen protector and you won’t have to worry about the fingernails damaging the screen.

Owesome unit, I highly recommend it.

The Garmin nuvi 765T has all the features but doesn’t perform as well as I would expect for a unit that cost so much. The keypad mis types letters and numbers frequently causing me to have to backspace and correct, the keypad on my ipod is more acurate; The search function can’t find addresses and stores, frequently finds a store several hundred miles away; The speech directions often tell me to turn right when the arrow on the screen shows a left turn; While inputting a street name into the search screen, it takes three tries before the Garmin lets me finish spelling the word, it keeps popping up with suggestions which don’t contain the street name I am looking for. I like the information displayed on the screen but am tired of not being able to map a destination.

Still figuring out all the features on this baby, but that’s OK since I intend to keep this one for a long time. The basics are easy, but it does more things then I thought I needed. The bluetooth through the GPS is a great feature. I always hated having a bluetooth ear piece hanging on my head which never got good reception. Comes with one free maps update. Amazon had the best price and free shipping, so if you can get it there, do so. They have best service.

The voice is tinny sounding and garbled. Pronunciation of street names are way off, laughable at times (what did she say?!). The routing it suggests has just been awful. Doesn’t seem to be up to date with current roads. I do like the moving map just for when I want to see where I am in the world, but that can be accomplished with a lesser model. Lastly, the thing posts advertisements — “coupons” for local restaurants, merchants, etc. I suppose that they sponsor the free traffic updates? I personally find the ads annoying and intrusive. I’m sticking with my older 250w.

Nice GPS with lots of features that works well. But, as with any GPS in the mountains of TN don’t rely on it entirley to get you where you want to go.

    Pros:

Having read the reviews, I was resigned to the fact that my Tracfone phone wasn’t compatible with bluetooth on this, and was considering the 755 as an alternative. I had a special email price given, so pulled the trigger on the 765t anyway, as it was less than the 755. Got it set up, and tried the bluetooth connection to my phone, and was very pleasantly surprised that it is compatible!

I also bought this for the MP3 player, and contrary to many reviews, the FM transmitter works perfectly for me. Maybe people just can’t get an empty station, but I tested it in my house as well and was a couple rooms away from my home stereo, and it still came in clearly.

    Cons:

Only negative for me is the touch-screen sensitivity, but it’s such an inconsequential point.

Prompt delivery and works as expected. Glad I didn’t buy it when they were $600.

I have had several Garmins in the past and they all worked fine (except for the earlier versions a few years back where software was very buggy), the 765T works fine as expected. Screen does not seem to be as responsive as the older versions even after I did the screen calibration, not really a big problem though. FM transmitter does not have auto tune like the older versions either, but again not a real big deal unless you travel through different cities which would make you seek out an unused FM station manually. Surprised to find out that power adapter and carrying case is not included anymore, for that matter, I did not even see the power adapter as an accessory with the exception of the AC/DC converter, but I still can use my other Garmin power adapter with it. I paid over 700.00 for my first Garmin a few years back and I paid under 200.00 for this one, so I am happy in general.

I travel for work and I use this at least twice a week to navagate to areas I haven’t been before and it is getting the job done. I switched from a Magellan to this Garmin. I have to say that after getting used to it I like the Garmin interface a little better. It has a better keyboard layout and it searches a little more friendly. The traffic feature is nice and seems to work well. It does give you a few advertisemnets because of the the traffic feature but they really don’t get in the way.

It does tend to navagate you through some more city like areas when you could take a quicker but less direct route around it. It hasn’t been real bad though.

This is a really nice unit and I would recomend it and I have.

It takes me right where I need to go everytime. For the price I paid you can’t beat it. The bluetooth Is great for the hands free driving and the lane assignment is nice too.

Very good driving directions, for those of you who are like I used to be and print out directions to everywhere you are going this will make life easier. 10 programmable waypoints, ability to search for local points of interest, hospitals are just a few things that make it great. I would recommend this to anyone.

  16. by C. Coffee

Very accurate. The traffic warning is quite good, but sometimes it does warn a little late.

The FM transmitter is not that good, but I just use a cassette adapter and that works great.

After noticing some issues with my beloved StreetPilot c580, I decided to purchase a new GPS. After much research (to the point where my wife was considering divorce), I settled on the 765T. It had the features I felt were an absolute must: bluetooth, text to speech, and traffic. So, I ordered the 765T. The positives: nice display, user-friendly interface, the GPS mount is an improvement over the streetpilot, and satellite lock is pretty fast (except for the initial power up). It took a while to pair the GPS to my phone (LG env touch), but after several tries I was able to link the GPS to the phone.

So what’s bad? The touchscreen is AWFUL. If I select something in the lower left of the GPS, something else is selected (say, a menu item in the lower right). This happened all the time. It happened when I typed on the keyboard (entering an address, for example). This happened when I attempted to scroll and select an item, when I tried to go back to the main screen (and instead traffic was selected). A once or twice occurrence wouldn’t be so bad. But all the time? It started to drive me nuts.

My other problem is the intermittent freezing when the GPS screen changes (from the map to main menu, or the traffic menus and back)

I wasn’t able to test the junction view or reality view. I didn’t have the unit long enough to try these features. Traffic? Well, i used my GTM-20 which has Navteq traffic and the clear channel traffic (TTN). The latter is superior. The traffic interface with the GPS is an improvement over the streetpilot.

I still hadn’t given up hope, however, so I ordered another 765T. Different unit (trust me: the units crossed in the mail), same problems. Initially, this unit thought I was in Zimbabwe upon initial startup. It took a while to acquire the satellites and at least get the continent right. Beyond that, I had the same problems.

I finally gave up at this point and opted for the 1390T. That unit is okay. Not great, but okay. At nights I swear I can hear the StreetPilot c580 laughing at me in my closet.

I am very pleased with the purchase. This Garmin does everything intuitativly and accurately. Used it on recent trip to San Diego. Guided me accurately everywhere. Screen is bright in the sun and doesn’t blind at night when it automatically shifts the display to dark mode. Bluetooth required to use cell phone in California and links easily with my cell phone. Traffic routed me around a 1 hour delay in LA just in time to get on alternate route. I will never be without GPS again.

overall “good” feature-packed product but here’s the bad parts:

    1. VERY SLOW point of interest searching and often misses the nearby locations.

    2. inaccurate touchscreen often when typing/keying-in letters/addresses.

    3. tells you to enter express lane then asks you to exit to the next in about a quarter mile.

    4. is it my unit only or does this model generally have extremely SHORT battery life?!

    5. annoying recalculations even if you’re on track with the directions.

    6. sound could have been louder.

    7. inaccurate traffic reports ..and..

    8. ..the AVOID button is useless.

..will add more if i remember them.

This would be a great product if it weren’t so slow to load the maps! Arrgh!
