2720 review
working fine so far. I’ve found generating and uploading routes via Mapquest to be more user friendly than using MapSource (version 2009). I’ve used Map Point as well as MapSource but still find Mapquest to be easier (even adding waypoints).
Thanks,
Jerry
Bad Choice
The map size is very small when so much of the screen is used for the arrow and directions. It also does not have a night mode/auto dimming feature. I purchased a refurbished unit, and the screen display was very fuzzy with poor color and contrast. Also, the hard buttons are awkward to push because of the effort needed to press them, combined with the fact that the unit is only mounted on a bean bag, it takes two hands to press a button and hold the unit from moving. I had absolutely no trouble or hassle returning it to the Amazon seller. If you’re looking for a full featured, easy to use GPS, consider the Garmin Street Pilot C550 new [...].

Thanks
Great Company!
I couldn’t believe how fast and effecient this company was in getting my Garmin Street Pilot 2720 to me. I ordered it last Tuesday close to 11:00 p.m. By Wednesday morning my package was being checked in with UPS. My Garmin which is supposed to be an overhauled product arrived at my home on Friday brand-spanking-new with all the accessories! This could not be an overhaul product. It’s too new. I took it to work today to show off to my co-workers who couldn’t believe the price I paid. Three co-workers plus the supervisor are interested in buying one as well. Good Job Digitechdeals!!!!
Stay away from Refurb
Bought a Garmin 2720 refurbished unit and it is nothing but junk. Stay away from purchasing anything refurb.
Garmin 2720
Excellent product for an amazing price.
Two years ago, I bought a refurb 2610 for over $200 and thought it was a wonderful deal.
This is a steal.
The 2720 has the same housing as the 2610 but they are different in many ways. Read the manual because the menu isn’t as intuitive as you may think. I’ll reward you,
Garmin Streetpilot 2720
Product was good for about 2-3 years. Within 2 months after installing a 2009 map update, the unit quit working. After Garmin could not fix it on line, they said it would have to be returned to be repaired. Only problem, they Quoted a flat rate of $220 for repairs. Thiis was more than the original GPS cost.
An excellent, robust GPS Unit
I purchased a new Garmin StreetPilot 2720 Portable GPS Navigator in Jan 2009. Even though this is a discontinued model the Garmin Web site made it easy to register, and then download the latest software/driver updates.
The Garmin is well constructed and durable. The cables heavy duty with sturdy connectors. The LCD screen is easy to read in most lighting conditions; and the auto day/night mode works perfectly. The electronic voices are clear, but a few words are not enunciated correctly, such as “highlighted”.
My profession requires me to drive throughout Vermont/New Hampshire often into remote areas. The Garmin satellite acquisition is fast and directions accurate, except it doesn’t have the 2009 mapping data so some roads and addresses are not in the Garmin database. I’m not sure what year the database has, most likely 2007. Garmin charges a pretty penny for the 2009 Maps on their Website. I refuse to pay their rediculous prices.
Overall this is a high quality unit. Garmin built this baby the way it should be done. I give it Five Stars. Since it’s weather proof I’ll use it on my motorcycle as well.
Garmin Refurb 2720 great buy
Purchased as a factory refurb and very nice low price. Unit was exactly as described. Works fine. Seller was prompt on fulfilling and shipping the order.
Great Unit!!!
I bought this for my conversion van and have been totally impressed with its accuracy. I also bought the traffic alert accessory which has helped guide me around wrecks and bumper to bumper traffic. Also enjoy the fact that I can use the remote and keep my attention on my driving
Garmin GPS
I am very happy with the delivery of this product. Every thing went very well.
Street Pilot
I love this GPS I bought it for my Victory Vision Motorcycle. My girlfriend and I use it when ever we need to go some place new. It works great on the bike or in the cars. Turn by turn voice commands guide us right to the location we seek.If you miss a turn the unit will redirect you to the location you seek. The screen is very clear giving the map location street names and compass direction your traveling. The touch screen programing is very easy to use and if you are computer savy you can program your trip on your computer and download it into the unit.
I love the fact that “Home” is locked in to the unit so from where ever you wind up one touch and the unit will take you back home.
An old model, but still the best gps
I bought this model as a refurb for $300 a few years ago. I still have it. I have also, in that time, had a Magellan 700 (which died), a Tom Tom One 3rd. Ed., a Magellan 2200T, and a recently purchased Garmin 680.
They all work and each has its positive points. The 2200T has the best suction cup mount by far, the TomTom lets you add map corrections, and the 680 has mp3 and bluetooth.
However, if you just want the best, easiest to use gps, the old Garmin 2270 is it. It has a superb bean-bag mount, a brilliant display, a remote control, test-to-speech, great sound (the 680 is a joke by comparison) wonderful trip planning, and you can still get map updates for it. Its negatives are it does not get satellites indoors, the speaker is on the power adapter and a bit BIG (hence the great sound), and it has no internal battery capability. Also a bit bulky, but who really cares about that…it lives on the dash. Overall, it is a very polished gps product and Garmin has yet to match its gps features in the newer nuvi models.
You can get these for a hundred and a half as refurbs with a one year warranty now, and they are, frankly, a steal at that price.
Great product, lots of options!
This GPS is easy to use, lots of options, and I am glad I have purchased it. I am never lost.
The only issues I dislike is, the time it takes to start up, no battery and sometimes the GPS unit has a bad connection with the satellites.
Easy to use GPS unit
This is my first GPS unit and was fairly easy to get up and running though more hours of reading the manual lie ahead if I want to learn to use all of its features. As a home care nurse I use the unit daily and generally find that my routing gets me where I need to go quickly. The voice feature allows me to keep my eyes on the road and still follow directions. The unit quickly recalculates alternate routes when I encounter road construction or traffic jams. I also use this unit on my motorcycle mounted on a RAM mount, which works well. The two most annoying traits I’ve found, so far: It’s impossible to make accurate entries on the touch screen with my big fingers much less using gloved hands, and the screen is very difficult to see when on the bike in bright sunlight. I understand that a hood is available that may help. Amazon’s vendor sells this refurbished unit for a very reasonable 149.00 with a 1 year warranty.
Great GPS, Great Deal
Bought this for use on my motorcycle. Dealer wants $1300 for essentially the same unit with Bluetooth (which I don’t need) and their logo. This does the same thing at a fraction of the cost.
The only review you need to read – unit has fatal flaw
This was the third Garmin we’ve owned. Our previous Street Pilot models were inferior to the 2720. While it worked, it was awesome. Unfortunately, the unit didn’t even last 2 years. The touch screen stops responding. It was infrequent at first and a hard-reset would solve the problem (and delete all the user’s data.) The problem got progressively worse to the point where it’s not usable. A quick search of the Internet will show that there are dozens of people who’ve posted the same thing happening to their young units. Garmin owes a bunch of people money.
great GPS
This is the second Garmin 2720 I have bought. One for the car and this one for the motorcycle . Has the GPS functions I want without all the stuff one very seldem uses or wants. Had a problem withn the screen on this one but Garmin replaced the complete unit in 48 hrs. GREAT C/S with Garmin. One of the few companies that have C/S……………..
Garmin 2720
Product is good but not simple to learn. Works well on motorcycle and is water proof. Screen is small bur bright in the day.
Great GPS & user friendly
I upgraded from the 2620 to the 2720 because this one actually speaks with the names of the streets or freeway so you don’t have to look at the screen while you are driving.
Very user friendly!
I’m never lost
Considering that I can get lost in a closet, I invested in a GPS. I love it, and I would tell everyone to get something like this in their car. It makes it possible for me to find new routes to various locations, and to get off the main highway with confidence. I have programmed several driving ‘vacations’ into the GPS. The drives are more than one day – so I love that I can program a week of destinations into the unit and slowly plot my course along – get off the course if I want – and hop back on again to continue my route.
