Since my original purchase of the Magellan Maestro 4000 4.3 portable GPS Navigator was recently stolen, I needed to get another one asap. I ordered the new one on Sept 4th and received it on Sept 9th, earlier than I expected. I have always had good service with Amazon.com with my orders and the Magellan Maestro 4000 4.3 GPS is very easy to operate. Keep up the good work!

Many a time I felt it gives wrong path from the options selected

At time the destination time fluctuates by as much as 12-18 hours – Don’t get a heart attack if it does with you

      Maps are old

The GPS works very well. The maps are old, but that’s not a huge deal. My main beef is with the chargers. Neither one fits into the socket on the GPS particularly well, so the battery shutoff reminder is almost constantly being activated. Also, the fuse in the car charger is very fickle, so we’ve had to replace that more than once already. If it weren’t for these issues, it would have been a 5 star review.

I have ordered two of these for my children for Christmas…..both didnt want to tell me that neither one of them worked til now. This stinks, now I have to try and figure out if Magellan will stand by this product or did I just made an expensive error. With two items being defective and factory refurbished not fixed….I would not waste my time or money. Spend the extra get something that has not been returned!!!

The unit came with plugs for house and car and both temporary and permanent attachments for the car. It does what it says it will do, I just wish that it said “turn here” instead of just giving a bell ring–I tend to ignore those. Anyway, I like it and would buy it again (especially at the refurbished price).

This is a great product! I love it! The only problem I have is that some streets aren’t in the system. My current street is not, and I’ve lived here for two years! Oh well, can’t have everything! I love the fact hat I can search by Points of Interest. This is a BIG help!

I brought this for a gift for my husband and we used it the day he got it. It works great and he was pleased with it and so was I. We went to Chicago and got lost because we didn’t follow the directions it gave, but it got us back on track and we ended up where we wanted to be pretty quick. After that my husband was convinced that this thing knew what it was doing! I was worried that a refurbished one would be a problem, but so far, so good. I liked saving money and my husband liked the ability to go places without having to download maps, etc.

Great price. Probably “older” technology or look (I don’t know, I’m just guessing — I wasn’t in the market for a GPS but couldn’t resist at the price). But quite functional, and the little thing is a lot smarter than I am. Pretty easy to use/figure out, too.

Item arrived with a bad suction cup on the holder but I repaired it. The maps are not updated so many streets, some major, are not intact. Works well but wish the maps were current. Its a 60.00 plus additional purchase for new maps.

I though the name Magellan is big. i went ahead and bought this machine.

      here is what i found.

      * very slow to recalculate. sometimes i would have to pull over to give it the chance to navigate..

      * The processor inside seems to be too slow to cater to any other need than navigation. A simple task like increasing the volume while navigating becomes a struggle. Don’t even try zooming in or out.

      * not enough information on the screen.. It does not display speed, remaining time or distance to your destination!!!

      * not enough spoken instructions… sometime you would come to a major intersection and the device won’t tell you what to do.

      * Many times the machine will sees to function. not even a reboot brigns it to life. after rebooting many times, and a long wait the thing starts to work again.

      * All sorts of crazy instructions and stuff that will get you lost for sure.

I swapped it for a few days with my friends navigan.. Night and day difference. My friends comment was ” it is primitive”. i didn’t pay much for it, but i wish i saved my money for something better.

I am very disappointed in this product. There are many roads in the neighborhood not in the Magellan. Roads that have been here for over 10 years. My TomTom had much better maps than this.

I bought this GPS about a week ago. The ads didnt said it was a factory refurbished on the ad last week. So when i got the Gps, i was shocked to found out that it is a refurbished gps. Even though I’m ok with the product, but I am sadden by misreprestation on the ad last week. I know now that the ad factory refurbished. But it wasnt there last week or even yesterday when i received my gps. On my receipt, it doesnt said it is a refurbished gps that i am buying. So i’m not too please with amazon right now. Please be careful with your next purchase.

I had been pricing a GPS at many different stores. The guy at one store felt sorry for me after my third visit. He said I could get one on Amazon for a much better price than the store. He was ABSOLUTELY right. I love the big screen, easy to program. I bought it for about $100 less than the store prices.

The price was right, and Amazon has a good reputation, so decided to try this GPS. Good decision! It came with all cords,(AC charger and cigarette lighter charger for the car) It works very well, but needs a 2008 map update which costs about 65 bucks. I don’t need to do that right now, but may consider it in future. Have had it for a month and works very well.

It is an excellent device that very helpful in road and easy to operate. Great buy indeed

clear voice directions. When you divert from directions it quickly changes to redirect you. Easy for a non-tech person like me.

Easy to use. Very simple, just I did not know I need to purchase update for approx $70.00. But price is right even paid update for map!

The unit was a refurbished item but it looks and function perfectly. It came with all the car and home chargers, mounting bases and instructions. For $90 and free shipping, you can’t beat the deal and I’m very pleased.

The size was right. The price was right. The accessories that came with the Magellan Maestro were just what I needed. It took seconds to set up and about 3 hours to fully charge the batteries using the home hookup. I didn’t see why you would need a home 110V hookup at first but it allowed me to get on the internet and map out points of interest (POI) into my GPS so in the morning when I was going cross country, it was all charged up and ready to go.

Around town, using the “Quickest Route”, the Maestro would try to take me around the wrong way of a traffic circle or down a one way street. So I guess it is truly the quickest way! That part is true. Not exactly safe or within the law but quickest is what I asked it to calculate.

One thing I did not like is that sometimes you need the 2D view and sometimes you need the 3D view. It takes 5 or 6 pushes of the button to get to it to change views. Once you get into the options window you have to pan it down a few to see the Map View option. It should be the first since it will likely be the most used map option used. It is a small detail but still annoying.

All in all, I like it very much. It has lots of great functions like time to destination, speed, average speed, etc. I have never gotten lost and its data bank straight from the factory is not bad. A few businesses that have closed down or streets that have been re-routed a few years ago are not updated but that is minor for how many streets are pre-loaded. The AAA function is very nice if you have an account with them.

I recommend this for the average traveler. You might want to look into others with bluetooth technology and other functions that might be more for your lifestyle.

After using the Maestro 4000 for about a month, I am extremely satisfied with it’s performance. Though I had used a GPS receiver for hiking and geocaching before, this unit has stronger reception and did what it was designed for, simply and adequately. The only time I really needed the manual was to add multiple destinations to a trip.

The wife could have cared less about it, that is until I had her turn it on and touch the Home icon while we were in town. The voice directional commands are superb, with detailed instructions when approaching confusing interchanges.

Mine is a refurbished model, yet you’d never know it. And I like that it included a case and both a car and home charger.

Good: display, signal reception, instant boot-up, ease of use, loud volume, accessories, price (under $90).

Bad: fewer points of interest than most newer models – upgradeable at a cost.
