This is for me a good gps for new users. What really pushed me buy this is because it is SONY. I am loving it because I dont really travel a lot. I mean the farthest I go would be like 10 miles…so this one is good enough for me. It says the street language, it tells you which lane if you need to take a ramp going to the the next exit in the freeway (which for me is tyhe most helpful)…So I give 3.5 stars generally.

This GPS is easy to use and I have bought 3 in total, for myself and family. The 1st at Sam’s club, the next 2 from Amazon.

The only problem this thing seems to have is when there is a service road running parallel to the highway, it often thinks that you are on that service road, and starts giving directions to get you back onto the highway. Not a big deal to me, but might bother some people.

It also likes to take you down the more major roads, but will recalculate your route after it realizes that you have something else in mind.

Overall it is very nice, locks onto the satellites quickly, and has a lot of nice features. Some of those features are; announcement of road names; auto dim ability for night driving that takes location, time, and date into account; and a detail graphic showing which lane(s) take you in the right direction.

OK, I read reviews here and I have a chance because this is my first GPS buy. First weeks I was excited with new possibilities which GPS gives you. Maybe 1st or 2nd week I would come here and put 5 stars but after real life test we ended up on 2.

After 2 months I simply realized that is not for me. It is slow. Search of places is also not practical at all… you can’t do it with zip code, once I had zip code but not city name… also finding crossroads or places of interest by name is very slow and database is quite out of date. I even have ordered firmware update but it was the same. Here in New Jersey some shops built 2-3 years ago are not on the map. Another very big problem is places that take big territory like parks if you want to navigate to different point lets say from one side is lake, from the other sports center and 3rd is simply park and there are all 3 listed with the same name but different type it is going to navigate you to the first record in their database regardless of your selection of object type and it may be miles away and not possible to get easy from one to another place.

Another very critical mistakes are turns. Several times navigation signaled me to turn left or sharp left on the place ‘no left turn’. OK, after first experience like that I stopped to trust navigation at all… unfortunately my wife do not have such a good orientation and she relay on the navigation much more so it was very dangerous to use it. Advice, use it with caution is best thing I can say you.

Another issue is it does not detect track in which your vehicle is… OK it is not ‘big’ sin but if I come from one direction 15 min ago and want to go home it suggests me to go in opposite way and I cannot turn because of full line… I start to go in opposite direction but it will not recalculate or it will suggest some funny turns where is impossible to make U turn.

OK Now we will give a try to Garmin and I will write review again and update this one too. First things I have checked is search and speed and it looks easier to use and finds places faster. Well, let’s see.

May have good features but it is EXTREMELY fragile. Some over paid VP decided to place a micro thin piece of glass as a cover for the screen it breaks buy light handling. I bought 2 at once and both were broken with in 2 months.

Since this one was actually cheaper than the 3.5 inch model, I chose the 4.3 inch Widescreen. My only complaint is that is always uses toll and/or major interstates eventhough a side street would be shorter. Also, don’t expect it to work in large parking lots. The optional traffic alert feature is well worth the $120.00 for a whole year rather than the $50.00 per month price. Anytime this gps drops below $100.00 buy it!

It is my best purchase of recent months. I like it very much becase it is very accurate, quick calculating and recalculating rout, friendly screen and simple menu. Great customer service from Sony !Bought this unit with old firmware version, Sony offered newest firmware update plus 2009 maps update. This gps is far superior to Garmin that I tried before. The only drawback is short battery life, a little bit over an hour. I would STRONGLY recommend to buy this product.

I purchased the Sony GPS through Amazon and was amazed at what a great deal I got. It arrived on time and was in perfect condition. No bad surprises and I was more than satisfied with the whole experience. I give it 5 stars times 2!!

Very pleased with this GPS unit I researched alot of them before buying this one. So far it has been right on point with directions and re-routing to selected destination. Clear good sized screen and I like the night screen. Bluetooth compatiblity is a plus.

I have had this product for about 3 weeks and still have not been able to get it to work. It is too complicated compared to our Garmin. It looks like it could be a useful GPS as long as we can figure out how to get it started. Overall, I would NOT recommend this product over other GPS brands.

When I was looking at GPS’ I was looking at the main brands like Magellan etc. Then my son told me about his Sony GPS. I ended up getting one because the Sony’s were cheaper than the others. I thought it would be less than because it was cheaper. I was wrong. It being a Sony made it awesome. I’ve been using it every day. My husband who is very bad with technology has also used it and it is quite easy to use. He says he doesn’t know how he lived without one.

I use to Google Map all of his work locations and he would still get lost coming home sometimes. Now we save paper and he never gets lost even when he’s coming home.

Excellent product. Arrived earlier than expected. Easy to set up and right on target. Voice instruction is clear and direct. Most impressive is its ability to provide correct direction even if you make unplanned stops or change your route before continuing your initial journey to your original destination. A must buy — great price, great product

it is very good and accurate. It is helpful with little things to like which lane splits into which freeway, etc.

This is a user friendly electronic device. Something I need in a electronic unit. It works very well. One thing though. I wanted directions to Conyers GA. The device advised there was no such city. That’s the first time it came up blank. Another thing is that it will take you only on major roads. It does not remember short cuts that one takes on smaller but more direct roads. That would be a big plus. The screen is large and easy to read and voice prompts are very legible. In the large scope of things I think it does a great job for the money.

Was very impressed with the navigator and with the reviews which were written by satisfied users, to the extent that I ordered one for my daughter who travels extensively in her job in MN. I haven’t had an opportunity to use mine, but she reports she is very pleased with hers. I was given an inexpensive navigator for Christmas this past year and it NEVER gave me correct directions – telling me to turn left when I should have turned right, ordering me to take a county road when I needed to be on the expressway. Very frustrating – have now discarded it!

I want to provide useful feedback to others shopping for a GPS unit. That being said, here’s what I like and dislike about the unit. I like the size, very easy to see from the steering wheel. I am well ssatisified with the selectable audio levels; no problem hearing with heat, ac, and/or stereo running. I like the mount, my caddy has a flat dash with a smooth leather-like finish and the mount is 100% effective, giving countless angle options. My minivan has a rounded pebbled finish and the mount is 100% effective there also. The battery life is about 3 hours, but the only way to charge the battery is to have the unit plugged into a cigarette lighter–I assume that most units in the $99 range do not come with wall socket chargers either. The only negative thing that I would point out about the software is that when inputting an address to find, the software app continually tries to complete the typed string, many times incorrectly; so getting in the street number, city, and state can be challenging. I give it 4 of 5 stars when making a judgement of how the unit met my expectations. I would need experience with other units before comparing the Sony unit to others.
