Disappointing
Unit tells me to turn when there is no turn. Cannot listen to AM radio without turning off TomTom due to “Whining Static”. Purchased the Traffic program ($20.00)extra only to find out it doesn’t work on this unit and you have to use a cell phone. RINKY DINK!!!! I already had a Garmin 330,that was over a year old, when I decided to “Upgrade” with the TomTom for my wife. This TomTom has never performed properly and after asking around I learn the “wrong turn” syndrome is quite common with this GPS. Even my A/C service man missed my house because his TomTom told him the wrong turn- Houston, Texas, 4th largest city in the US! Also, stupid me purchased the map update and still no improvement! Sorry, but this is the severest review I have ever given but facts are facts.
Excellent value for price
I got a refurbished unit. The maps were outdated. But TomTom provided one time free update to latest maps. Although the code provided for the one time update didn’t work for me, I was able to get a new code from the customer service. Update require connectivity to a computer. But that was not too complex either.
How did I ever do without?
I bought this Tom Tom as a refurbished unit. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but for the price, it was an excellent purchase.
I like that Tom Tom offers a free upgrade to current maps. This is especially important if you buy a refurb, because the map software could be a year or two old by the time you get it. I bought a Garmin for my wife several years ago and we had to spend another $50 dollars to get the maps we needed.
The only thing that I do not like about this product is the mounting hardware. The suction cup does not stay stuck to the inside windshield. At 70 mph on the highway, it is scary when it falls down on your feet. There is a dash mount available but it is pretty expensive. Eventually I will figure something out – maybe a modification to a cell phone holder.
Excellent product, and at the refurb price, a tremendous value.
Best of the price
I bought a refurbished one. It worked really well, easy to use, give fairly accurate routes, voices are good, so many important points, & I love it. Big display is a huge advantage. It suddenly stop during a road trip. But they replaced it with a new one. No problems after that. For the price I paid, this is a really good deal, specially compared to other GPSs available for the same price.
Nice product for the price
Nice product for the price, but I would recommend spending a bit more and getting one with more features.
Good GPS
I received the GPS quickly after ordering it. I did have a few problems with the device. 1. It would not hold a charge, it was dying as soon as I started using it. 2. The car charger didn’t work, so that was a huge problem. I contacted the company. They replaced the car charger and the whole GPS for free. So, now I’m happy again!
Nice GPS, but pronunciation of streets not so good
I really like my GPS. It’s very nice. It has worked for a long time. I bought it refurbished and the price was great. My only complaint is that the street pronunciations are not very good.

TomTom has an awful client support abroad. If you need it, you can forget it…
Great Price, Great Device
I’ve always wanted a portable GPS, and when the price dropped on the XL-S, I jumped on it. It currently resides in my wife’s car and she uses it constantly. It has good battery life when not plugged in, and makes finding locations extremely easy.
It’s refurbished, but I couldn’t tell. It came in a new box with wrapped cables and even a screen protector. I’m so satisfied with this product that I plan to buy a second one for myself.
Bad choice.
Difficult to understand the instructions. Wish I had never bought it. Never used it successfully.
Tom Tom’s are great, but the Factory Refurbished are a rip off
I purchased this GPS to replace the one stolen from my car. I really like the TOM TOM devices. But the “Factory Refurbished” units come with an outdated set of maps, and by the time you purchase the updated maps it cost more than a brand new retail unit with full warrenty.
Not only was the one-time update disabled, but my previous units “update license” could not be transfered to my new unit.
Don’t kid yourself, just go buy the full retail product. This is no “deal”.
As Expected
I got what I expected, a product that worked right out of the box (except for the battery that was completely drained). No way you could tell it’s a refurbished item.
The map was up to date, even though, for my experience (also with other tom tom products in the past), the USA-Canada map is missing way too many information (poi) for my taste. Overall the product works very well (with the known pros and cons of TomTom products) and other for having to charge the battery, the out of the box experience was very positive. A very good deal!
Problems
The GPS works, but no speech, and the suction cup adaptor doesn’t work at all.
For the money, however, I got my money’s worth.
Great buy
Works really great and gets signal really fast no matter where you are. Clear directions. I would recommend tomtom one XL to anyone. Had my map updated immediately I bought the device. I would suggest whosoever buys this product to set up tomtom home page and call customer service within 30 days of purchase to get the free latest map. I also love the mapshare with tomtom since roads change everyday. I would also recommend doing an update once a month to keep your map up to date.
TomTom ONE XL-S
This unit was a refurbished one. The condition that it arrived in was indistinguishable from being brand new. I was able to get the updates after contacting TomTom and providing some information. This required following their instructions precisely, but once done got me a year of updates. I have been very pleased with how the unit works.
TomTom One XL-S
This is an wonderful product so far for the price. With a widescreen GPS you are able to operate easily while driving. TomTom is always the best in the GPS market.
Very good value!
I must really like this product … because the first one I purchased was stolen! They broke a $300 window to get a $100 GPS! But after I got over it … I bought another one, and this one is just as good, only I take it inside now when I leave the car. I love the Text to Speech, and the touch screen and it seems to be very accurate. Buying Factory refurbished has been a smart buy … both times!
Unreliable, slow, doesn’t last
I bought a factory refurbished TomTom last Xmas from Amazon even after knowing Garmin was the market leader. I preferred the TomTom interface. I read reviews that said the maps weren’t necessarily up to date, but you could download new ones. The bottom line is this device took forever to boot up, often sent me in circles in a variety of different cities, included streets that weren’t there, and excluded streets that were there. The warranty was inadequate. It was positively maddening. We ended up literally throwing it out the window.
Car charger broken!
Price very good, TomTom like new but the car alimentation cable is broken so it’s hard to use the GPS!
Needs updated maps…..computer voices
Can’t beat it for the price but I have a hard time understanding the computer voices pronunication of street names. The map I have is the latest but it still does not have streets that are two years old . Otherwise it works great and is worth it’s weigh in gold.
